Start 10

Start button image

I'm old school!  I want to see a real Start button!  I found an image on the Internet, and it worked fine for older versions Start7/8, but the current version Start10 did not work as I expected.  I was unable to find any Stardock image specification but did determine they use a  stacked image: Default, Mouse-over, and Menu selected.  The file format is .PNG.

I created my own Start button image using Paint.Net - the Free photo editing software. The default button looks like this:  , Mouse-over looks like this , and when you click on the menu the button changes to the Stardock icon.  I am reluctant to post a URL to the actual image as I used copy Stardock's default button to create the image; don't want to violate copyright!

Note, I did have a problem when I tried to install another image that I had created.  The problem was the file was Paint.Net's PDN  format (not PNG).  Using this image wiped out the start button completely - image and functionally!  I had to uninstall Start10 and re-install it to resolve the problem! I should also point out the Paint.Net does edit and save a PNG image;

In closing, I think there's still a lot of old-school users that would like a traditional Start button with the word 'Start'.  It would be nice to have one in the to pick from the collection of Start button images!  It would also be helpful to have image specifications and acceptable file format information for those who select to choose use their own image.

You can download a variety of start buttons on WinCustomize.com to use with Start10 and Start8.

Thanks for the feedback and reference to other sources!  I actually like the one I created and using it now.   I will check out the Start button building tool - looks interesting.
