The program you use is irrelevant. Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, GIMP, ...
What you need is practice, lots of it, and talent.

Paintshop Pro gives you the most bang for your buck IMHO... You can download a trial version at http://www.jasc.com/

PSP has plenty of user groups and 'how-to' websites all over the internet...

Good luck!

Well, the price of the GIMP is pretty hard to beat: free.
And it's quite powerfull too. Learning it is a little harder than learning to use PaintShop Pro though.

If you're a college student or know one Universities offer educationally priced versions of Photoshop.

Well alice you have two options. Either you can go and use the paid apps and forget the next part or you can use freewares like paxx told you and we'll tell you how deep the rabbit hole goes..

/me has always wanted to say that... being a Matrix fan and all

Ok alice, enough TP. By now, you must have browsed around and found a few walls to your liking. And you might've observed that many of them are 3D. Well, here's the list of 3D rendering software..

1)Bryce: This seems to be the most favoured choice of the WC members. Its cheap compared to other rendering software (so they say). It has a good GUI. All and all, a good choice.

2)3D Max: You must have surely heard about this. It was there before all and will remain after all other rendering softwares are outta vogue.

3)Lightwave: It is costlier, harder to understand and eats a lot of resources. But the rendering is fantabulous.

4)Rhino: Tool of the Gods. May I say more?

5)POVRay: One of the cheapest. Its free. I use this. Available at http://www.povray.org The GUI is virtually non-existent, but thats a price you'll have to pay if you want free software.

6)Poseray: Another freeware. Tried it, but couldn't get the hang of it.

Next in number are the landscape walls. The landscape rendering tools are:

1)Terragen: Cheap. Easy learning curve. Good rendering.

2)Vue d'Espirit: Costs a bit. Easy to learn. Great rendering.

3)World Builder: Costly. Hard to learn. Amazing rendering.

4)Mojoworld: Costliest. Steepest learning curve. Mind-blowing rendering.

Thanks werewolf. I will save it, copy it to notepad. Care to add something about the post rendering operations (in my case) inPS&, Gimp, Paint, etc?

I know nothing of 3-d rendering other than terregen. You might want to add a list of regular graphics programs: Photoshop, PaintShopPro, etc.

Thats what i asked you to add. I don't use much of those, you know..

I don't have any of them, tho I have worked on PS7.
