F1... Anyone?

Hi..

Its that time of the year again, when the fastest cars in the world put on a show. Grease spilling, gas guzzling, rubber burning lean, mean machines with mean drivers competing for the most coveted title in auto racing...

A bit too much? I don't think so.

Though most of the spectators were put off by the no show last time, (the scarlets demolished and dismembered the rest, the also-rans) its time for the ardent fan do don his fav team's colours and cheer for it for the races. All I can say... If u see a flash of colour whizzing past you on the road, be sure its a F1 fan emulating his/her hero.

Feel free to add comments and links to F1 related stuff.

Roll on Saturday.
Can't wait for the new season, although I think a lot of the new rules introduced are quite simply futile crap.
The teams wanted rules that cut costs, so why didn't the FIA simply limit to teams to a set budget for the season?
Or an alternative would be to take a similar approach to F3/F3000 and have an outside comapny contracted to build the body and chassis, and the teams then buy from them.

One team I'm anxious to see this year is Sauber. Essentially they are blue Ferrari's.
They're running the '02-spec engine that was in the Ferrari's last year, so assuming they have a half-decent aerodynamic setup, they could very well be grabbing a top 5 place every race.

Your funny @shu, I in fact did think that your F1 reference was a fancy request for help. But then I don't follow the support of car racing.

/me bows and scrapes his way backwards out of this particular posting.

Maybe Hippy. But do you think any of the also rans is qualified to give the scarlets a run for their money? I bet the F2002 can beat the crap out of the new models of the rest.

psst??? anybody got any links for the pics of the F2003-G?

Also Hippy, don't you think that the new rules would lead to a tougher fight and hence more spectatorship?

I'm a HUGE F1 fan, have been for over a decade. Funny that Max (Mosley) & Bernie (Ecclestone) had to react in such a knee-jerk way to a situation that has happened over & over again in Formula 1. I remember when Williams could not be beaten & also when McLaren were untouchable, did anyone "need" the series to be "fixed" back then? No.

I also remember how Ferrari couldn't BUY a win, for years & years. I started out my Formula 1 addiction being an Alesi fan, when he was teamed with Gerhard Berger at Ferrari, they had the largest budget in F1 but still they could not even get a sniff of any World Championship points for well over a decade, they were the losing-est team in F1 at that time. Did anybody feel the need to re-invent the series back then? Hell no!

Oh well... this season should be one helluva year, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm in a small F1 Pool, have won the "Championship" two years in a row, I'm going for #3 this year. Wish me luck! So, who (if anyone?) can de-throne Michael this time around? That's right, nobody! I would have to put my money on Ralfie in the Williams to be the next quickest after brother Mikey. Or perhaps his team-mate Juan-Pablo Montoya? (IF he can settle down & not always "choke" when he's getting near). Also, I was expecting HUGE things from team Renault last year that never happened, Honda too. They both really let me down bigtime. I'm hoping for better results from both of those engines this year.

Who's your #1 team/driver? My Canajun blood forces me to root for JV in the BAR, but at heart I'm still (& probably always will be) a Ferrari fan.

Better Red than dead!

Exactly my thoughts Phydeaux_3

Scarlet Rulez!!! I've loved Ferarri even when they weren't winning, you know the time when Mika won twice in a row, Schumi crashed... (It seems centuries ago...)

But I beg to differ on the guy on the second spot. I don't think Ralfie has the hunger to haunt Michael. I think its gonna be the Columbian who is gonna be baying for the elder Schumacher's blood. But that brat's gotta understand that Schumi is unbeatable, He is God at the moment.

I also think that the new Finn on the block, Raikonnen, will put up a good show, i.e. if the Merc holds up...

The rest, well they are just there to fill up the places.

Yep, I gotta agree with you two when I pick Montoya as my favourite to topple Shumacher.
Failing that I'd probably pick Barichello, although I think we'll still see Micheal take the championship again.

Sometimes, with the kinda car and backing he has, I think only Barrichelo can challenge Michael. But I think, its a foregone conclusion that Michael is Ferrari's No. 1 driver, even before the racing season has started...

Technically, I think, that the teams wait till the end of the first half of the season to decide their No. 1 driver, but Michael is already nominated for the top dog position in the Scarlets. I think, that, more than anything else, hampers Rueben's chances in the championship...

I don't know a whole lot about F1, but I was watchig a show on TV last night about the new rules. It sounds good to me. Seems more pressure is going to be placed one the pilots. Which sounds good to me. I hate it when a sport is too much determined by the engineers.

Danish national TV, the only station on which I normally watch F1 decided on Tuesday less than a week before the first race, that they didn't want to transmit F1 after all.... so now I can't watch F1 anymore >:/ The races are only aired from a diff satelite company than the one I have.

Im just soooooo pissed of right now!!! > > > > > >

Snowman - I feel your pain, really. It has happened to me in the past, usually failing all else I can watch it on French TV here, since Villeneuve came to F1 the local French TSN (RDS - reseau des sports) always carries it. I'm just thankfull that SPEED has it this year, no screw-ups so far.. I even got to watch the 1st Qualifying session - LIVE! Woo! Again, I'm sorry for anyone who's TV subscription leaves them without F1, I'd wither & die. You can always "watch" it at http://f1.racing-live.com/en/ they keep up-to-the-minute timesheets (that's how I watch the practice sessions) so if all else fails, it's better than nothing. Not much, I agree, but hell it's something, eh?

WytRaven - You think that's EASY?! Step away from the crack-pipe...

I'll fill you in on all the 'gossip'...when I get a chance...but the new qualifying method is quite good...

More 'news' soon...

Thanks Jafo. Looking forward to it.. Wave out to Schumi Sr. for yours truly..

Well, after watching the first of the 2 qualifying races, I have to say I love this new one-shot qualifying rule.
The Honda's were quite impressive, although I was so hoping for Villeneuve to pick up a crap lap time, thus humbling him and his big-ass ego, and maybe soften his crappy attitude toward Jenson Button.

Looking VERY forward to the race.

Villeneuve is playing his career this year, and he knows it.
He knows he's out of BAR after this season, so he better perform well enough to pick up a contract with soebody else.

Maybe, he needs some of the drive and confidence that pushed him to the top in his rooky season...
Or maybe he needs a good car like he had with Williams.

I think he is a good pilot. Probably one of the top 3 in the F1 circuit right now.
Unfortunately when he took that decision to leave Williams for BAR, he made the worst mistake of his life. It may have ruined his career for life.
I'd love to see him with Ferrari next to Schumi. Except I'm not sure he'd like to be second pilot, because Schumi will always be #1 for Ferrari, no doubt about that. Yes, Villeneuve has talent, but he also got a huge attitude problem.

Funny thing, he's been bad mouthing BAR and Honda for 2 years, and now he's surprised that BAR is giving the cold shoulder.

This is his last year with BAR, if I am not wrong..
