More Female DX Themes

Hi, I'm a 55 year old female ( don't laugh) and I love this WinCustomize program, since I really enjoy making my desktop look different. However, I wish someone would make more "female" related DX's. The few that are out there are "ok", but just not what I'm looking for. I would make them myself, but have no idea where to start. If someone wants to tell me the programs that I need, I can try making them myself. Thanks Alot and I hope you all have a great day.

Princess, the problem is that most skinners are male. There are however a few women around.

As for the tools needed to create DX themes, you really don't need anything but a graphics program (Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, The GIMP, whatever...) and Destop X itself.
There are a few tuts around. You can start here: https://www.stardock.com/products/desktopx/docs/gettingstarted.html

paxx you forgot that you also need a boatload of talent. You skinners take it too much for granted that plain people such as myself could ever achiev your level of expertise.

/me looks at himself and then with evny at the skiners (artists).

Oh and BTW Princess, you can always add your own background (wall) and then add all the little nifty gadgets (desktop objects--primarly from DesktopX) and from ObjectBar in to your "female" background. Or you could try the desktop my wife uses. I can't remember the exact name of it but it is somewhere on the WinCustomize site. It is a Victorian design and uses a basket with roses in it to notify you if new email has arrived. I'm sure that if anyone else who reads this message knows how to make a link to a specific Suite, he (or she) will do so. Just keep checking back or search on your own.

I wholeheartly agree with princess. There is that male dominated problem though. I would like to make more female oriented windowblind themes but the bottom line is, time spent is better spent on a theme that might get downloaded.

Perhaps if there was a special catagory for female themes then it might get filled.

listen to HuronJoe cuz if you find a good DX theme that you like the icons/objects and the Dock all you really need to add that feminine touch is a softer wall on it...

wonder if your interested in starone's skins, they probably will be appealing to you princesshirmer, tho i dont think she makes DesktopX as of yet, maybe something for future who knows

Thank you all for your help. Here is my next question of the day I have decided I am going to try my hand at making DX's. If I find icons/objects and docks on WinCuztomize that are made by someone else, am I allowed to use them or do I have to create my own or get them from somewhere else?

You can use them (after all, that is what they are meant for), but if you are planning on uploading your creation to WC, then you will have to obtain permission from the original authors.

Hi Gadget Girl, nice to meet you. I was a little apprehensive about putting a post on here since I had the feeling that most of the "citizens" here were much much younger and more of the male gender. The younger folks seem to think us older ones don't have a clue about computers, but I decided to post anyway. I have started to download Photo Shop 7, (trial version), which in my case (very slow connection) is going to take two days.. . My son the computer wiz informed me that he has the program, so that saves me some time. I'm going to try this DX theme invention and hopefully upload something. I am home all day so have lots of time to mess around with the computer. I have horses, so maybe I'll do a horsey theme. Thanks again for writing.

I'm Elfkura. WC actually has quite a few members who are close to and around your age span

I'm just not one of them though, but note that a lot of the people who contribute the designs you find are all at a wisdom age

Ladies, there are a lot us older people here. I'am 55. Have fun and enjoy the site and don't worry about posting. It's fun and helpful.

Guess I better put my arthritic two cents in.
I don't like to admit my age however I was born in 1954
Truthfully, the old saying "it is not how old you are but how old you feel" is true to the point. If you like to make desktop themes then nothing should stop you.
Photoshop is good but the trial version has many features turned off. I went through the long download only to be disapointed that nothing I made with it could be saved.
Paintshop Pro has gotten better and every feature works in the trial but that is on a 30 day time bomb.
Hope to see some designs of yours online.

I think it is absolutely great that you wish to make your own theme. I am sure that the members of WC will all give you all the support they can.

Thanks Delicious for the link, I think I downloaded them all. They're beautiful. I'm going to see if my son has the other program (probably does and Thank YOU and Chinaman for your vote of confidence. It will probably be a while before I have something uploaded here, unless I get reeaaally smart, reeaaallly quick.. But I'm determined.

OK - maybe this is a niaive question, but what precisely is a "female theme"?

I'm assuming that you don't mean pink and fluffy so I'm a bit unsure how to offer help.

Are you talking about the way they look or what their functionality is?

What she may be asking for, as I can only guess, is for a bit more "softness" to the works that are being created. You know how you've got the dark, simplistic designs, the metallic ones, the many others which involves shapes. I think she may be looking for ones involving maybe butterflies, a more mountain/river themes, a more angelic themes, or maybe even roses by the windowsill.

Unless of course I've just totally missed my mark

Pink and Fluffy is not me....I will say this, however, I am not putting down the themes that are here, they are very beautiful and I'm very envious of the people that make them that way. I think Elfie has hit the mark, butterflies, flowers, etc. One of my hobbies is horses, so maybe a horse theme. The ones that are on here are just a little too busy for me, I'm old and get dizzy just looking around the room....OL..just kidding. Thank You Elfkura for coming to my rescue.

I agree. I like pink and I plan on some pink stuff. Not that the color is female but some poeple think it is. I think it is quite manly.

Elfkura , Just so you don't think I am stealing your idea here is a graphic for a skin I am updating. http://users2.ev1.net/~sallyh/Frame%20Top.bmp

I can't verify it but the graphic has been made for a couple weeks now.
