Extremelly slow on windows 10

I've installed fences on my W10 machine and it takes ages for starting.

After 1 minute without desktop icons fences show up after a few clicks...

I've a registered version.

Does anyone have any tip or sugestion to solve this problem ?

I do have one suggestion, though it mightn't be the one you wanna hear... Win 10 is a pig so go back to Win 7 or 8.1.

Seriously, though, the slow loading of Fences has been an issue since Win 8.  It has to do with MS startup preferences and the delay to allow apps and etc to load first.  I'm not sure if there's a fix for Win 10 as yet, but I found that double right clicking on the desktop in Win 8.1 brought Fences and the icons faster, so maybe try that until a fix is found.

This is true.

TRUE and COMPLETE loading times for an OS are not simply when you see the desktop icons - something MS likes such Shell addons as Fences to load later rather than earlier [as was the case in Win 7 and older].

My machine is particularly high-end and takes 41 seconds from cold. [ASC has a timer].

It's probably in the top 100 on the planet [7200 AUD saw to that]...;)

Re-allocating the startup timing for Fences won't change the overall boot time...only the order of load...;)

My AMD FX8350 x8 machine starts in 26 -28 seconds from cold to usable desktop  That's without fences.  With Fences it's 34 - 36 seconds.  Mind you, I do have Ultra Fast Start enabled in the BIOS

My Intel 4970K machine starts in 36 -38 seconds from cold to usable desktop without Fences.  With Fences its around 44 to 46 seconds.  Again, Ultra Fast Start is enabled in the BIOS.

Yes, it's true, my AMD machine starts faster than my more powerful Intel one.  Imagine that!!!!! :O

All up, my Intel machine cost in the vicinity of AUD$3500.  That's the cost of the original parts [CPU, RAM, etc] that went into the upgrade of new case [CoolerMaster Cosmos II] new mobo [ASUS Maximus VII Hero] and graphics card [ASUS  GTX680 x2 8gb GDRR5 MARS III]

My AMD machine was around $2000 with brand new everything.... and still a very respectable machine speed-wise after several of its parts have been superseded once or twice since building  In actual tech age that probably means 3 or 4 times because I usually wait for price drops on new hardware before purchasing.

Funnily enough, my little HP 2-in-1 boots to a working desktop in around 30 seconds. Mind you, it doesn't have a lot to load in the way of programs and services, etc. 'Rapid Boot' is enabled in the BIOS and the OS is on a M.2 SSD, meaning no spin-up and instant access at power on.

I once read there is a registry edit for Win 8.1 to make Fences load faster, but I don't know if there is one for Win 10, or whether it would work for Win 10.  Thing is, it does enable an almost instant desktop with working Fences and icons.

41 seconds is not to 'usable icons'.  That is NOT the end of a boot sequence.

Really?  With a beast like yours?  I'd have thought you'd have an accessible desktop sooner than that... given the raw power, and being that the fix to load Fences faster in Win 7 and 8 has been around a while now.  If I'd spent that much cash on such a beast I'd be wanting faster loading times than that   Put it this way, I paid less than half for my Intel rig, and I'd be severely pissed if it took over 40 seconds to become usable, given its no slouch, either [Intel i7 4790K currently overclocked to 4.5ghz] and the M.2 SSD being so blazingly fast].

Do you have 'Fast Boot' enabled in BIOS?  And if not, why not?   With a high-end machine that's one of the first things I do, enable fast or 'ultra fast' boot to get the best from my hardware.  And when using Fences I have the registry edit for Win 8.1 enabled so I'm able to access my desktop icons almost instantly. The other thing I do is disable the login screen, not having to sign in shaves off a few seconds.  I also have several non-essential startup items disabled or delayed to redirect power to those more important processes.  In this day and age of 'super' high-end hardware, waiting around 40 + seconds from power-up to a workable desktop is not my idea of fun, so I take every opportunity I can to enable faster boot times.

I probably phrased that wrongly.

41 seconds was the time recorded to FULL BOOT.  'usable icons' was probably closer to 30. [and that's with Fences].

The old i7 920 on a 'normal' SSD was 52 seconds to FULL BOOT...;)

I still think that you could get better from the 'Beast'.... with a bit of tinkering and a few adjustments.  In fact, I need to do that with my AMD rig again.  Some hardware was swapped with higher rating components I had [motherboard, RAM and a M.2 SSD] and at the time I didn't go into the BIOS to improve startup times.  As I recall, the AMD rig booted to fully operational in under 20 seconds.  Hopefully it'll boot even faster with the M.2, higher-end hardware and when those adjustments are made.
