Right click on the task bar and click on lock. That should do it.

You using the shareware version of windowblinds? If so, I don't think you can lock it.

This is a known and widely discussed Windows issue. XP does it even without WindowBlinds installed. Hopefully someone else can elaborate on that, since I'm only repeating what I've read. I don't think there is any solution.

once you have you taskbar setup the way you like it. Logoff not shutdown so that way your settings will be saved. It's a default of XP.

Someone confirm that RC Bergman's 'fix' works for them, and I'll add it to the FAQ.

I don't use the windows taskbar, so I can't tell.

actually all you have to do is "Lock the Taskbar" in XP and it will become sticky.

it is a standard windows xp option..

Locking the taskbar works fine for logging-off - but it will do absolutely /nothing/ where changing skins is concerned. It's simply the nature of the beast that is XP. (There was actually an explanation of exactly why this happens awhile back on the newsgroups - but I certainly don't remember it! ^_^)

if you want to get techie about it

You can lock the taskbar in XP by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting Lock the Taskbar.

You can also edit the registry to lock the taskbar by performing the following steps:

1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).

2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Explorer\Advanced.

3. Double-click TaskbarSizeMove.

4. Set the TaskbarSizeMove value to 0 to lock the taskbar or to 1 to unlock the taskbar, then click OK.

5. Close the registry editor.

and your taskbar is static locked...

Service Pack 1 fixes any issues with locking the taskbar by the way...

kthxbye: That's what I was thinking of. It's changing skins that forces it back to a single row. My mistake.

kthxbye, mikeb314, thinking about it, it stands to reason with *wb* controlling the
painting of the bar, um, could you create the bar to be double sized in the skin and then if they want to resize it down to single have it show correctly?

What I mean is, the reverse of it starting out single and you drag it up expanding the quick launch, system tray, etc so it wraps the icons as it grows and shrinks the
list as the bar is resized smaller.

Ah, the reverse of that, start large with wrapped icons, resize smaller making it so a lower number of icons are displayed and it still function/look correct?

From the way it was explained - it isn't WB handling the painting of the bar - at least not during a skin change. Something about Windows always switching back to Classic before it changes a skin, or something like that.

Bah - if I'd bothered to set a newsreader back up, I'd look to see if one of the mssages still exists. ^_^

hmmm, isn't there a setting in wb4 or DTX for changing, oh wait that is restoring system icons, not desktop, at least I think it is?

If I recall from the newsgroup discussions, MS requires the skin changes to classic mode before the application of a new skin. This occurs even when using the MS Luna skins and can't be jimmied by WB.

ack, must be so it sets everything back to one starting point so the gui doesn't blow chunks on your monitor or in your registry?
