Clarification on operating company after buying them out

Let's say I'm a scavenger player and buy out a scientific player. How does it work?

My assumption was that after I buy them they continue to function as scientific and get bonuses for having resources above tiles. Also if I use claims that I got from upgrading them then it would function the same way where I could put farms on top of water and not have to pay to supply water.

So the questions I have:

  • Does it continue to function as a scientific player or does it then get treated like a scavenger where it loses all the scientific bonuses?
  • If I upgrade either myself (scavenger) or the player I bought (scientific) does it matter where and how I use the claims? Like if I upgrade myself (scav) and use the claims near the scientific base would I be able to get the benefit of putting a farm on top of water? Or would the claim function like a scavenger claim and I wouldn't get the benefit.  (TLDR: Do the new scav claims always work like scavenger if you buy a scientific player)

Basically, if you buy out the scientific player you don't gain the ability to build scientific buildings. Everything new is treated like a scavenger HQ built it no matter what. However, the current buildings on the map that you bought are still scientific buildings, and they still get the bonus.

Wow....that gives a massive advantage in the game to starting out as scientific then.

If you tear the scientific buildings down and put something else up does it still work as scientific? Is it specific to those particular tiles or is it just those buildings as long as they are there? So like if the scientific player had a farm on top of water and I tear it down and build an electrolysis reactor is it still using that water tile as input or does it now revert to being treated like a scavenger?

it then reverts to being treated like scavenger.

You'd think this would be an advantage to scientific, and in some ways it is, but it also makes scientific buyouts more appealing to the non-scinetific players, so people try to kill them off more than the other HQ's :P

So if im robotic and buy a scientific. As long as i dont scrap the building they remain scientific? Or all the original claim of the scientific i bought remain scientific tiles?

this would be clearer if the scientific faction had unique building graphics

End of TheTrav's quote

That would be a good thing, they could even make a unique graphic for each faction :)

Technically speaking, only scientific buildings are a different type.  This also matters for adjacency.  If you, as a non-scientific, buy out a scientific player and plop a regular farm next to an existing scientific farms, the farms do not get adjacency bonuses.

By the way, is this still true for robotic?  Since they get adjacency bonuses from adjacent resource buildings, is that effectively a third type of buildings and does the adjacency bonus depend on who built them or who owns them?
