I know Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro can do it. I assume lots of other graphics editors can as well. What graphics program do you have? The process likely varies between applications.

It's just another format like jpeg or bmp. Photo Shop has that format. Don't know about PSP but would guess it has it also.

You just make your graphic as usual, and when you "save a copy", just scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will see .tga listed there (in Photoshop). Remember, if you are making .tga files to use in a WindowBlinds skin, they must be uncompressed 32bit files, and in SkinStudio you must set "Translucency IS being used".

PSP doesn't do 32bit tga. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I do not understand why we can't have png support in WindowBlinds.

Koasati, when you import a transparent PNG in Skin Studio, it will automaticaly convert it into a transparent TGA.

And if you import a not transparent PNG, it will convert it into a BMP.

svg would be a nice addition to graphics handeled
though probably more of a pain to add than it is worth, program wise...

I think .tga is a better quality than .jpg.

tga is a higher end graphics format for sure. I was thinking more about keeping the size of resource use when displaying down, trading against that difference in quality. One of the reasons I have been wondering about svg is it scales up or down without any deviation in display quality.

JPG doesn't support alpha blending. It's apples and oranges.

Yeah, but they are still fruit.

Paxx:

I had no idea you could use transparent .png's when designing a wb skin. So I could do that, pull them all into Skin Studio and it would auto convert them to .tga's??? Coolness indeed.

WOM: Thanks I try

It's just that PSP7 doesn't make the right kind of .tga files, but now I don't have to worry about that. Sure wish that little tidbit would have been exposed a little sooner.

All you had to do was ask. hehe

But how would I have known to ask?

I certainly wouldn't have made that connection as a possibility.

"Hmmm, I wonder...If I made .pngs, would SS import them and somehow magically transform them into uncompressed 32b .tga files?"

Koasati, when you import a transparent PNG in Skin Studio, it will automaticaly convert it into a transparent TGA.

Had no idea you could do that ... thanx paxx!

btw.... werewolf and I have both mentioned this problem before, and no one said diddly.......... so the question was asked, just didn't ask the right person.

png is cool, and yes it is still fruit

And it is apples and oranges, but I still wonder what the resource overhead difference is between the two, or are the graphics converted anyway?

So if you have the larger tga, it converts to a smaller size graphic anyways keeping the skin side down?

I am just starting to do some graphics and will play at putting the slices into SkinStudio, that is why I am wondering, would rather start out with the correct habits
