Martika’s Kitchen
Album: Martika’s Kitchen
Year: 1991
Martika plans a romantic night at home in the naughty “Martika’s Kitchen.”
Sweltering synths opent the single, setting a heated tone. A variation on the chorus starts the single. She holds the stirring spoon to her lips and tastes the sauce. She tells him it tastes done. She asks him if would like to put it on the table. He gives her a kiss and it’s as though he just set on her fire. She can’t remember the last time they made love and she wants him now. She grabs hold of his waist and pulls her to him. He’s kissing her neck and puts her body on the counter. The toaster gets knocked onto the floor. (“Wooo, here we go/The table's set baby /Wooo, ahh here we go/My oven is hot/Come on get some, in Martika's kitchen baby/You bring the noise and I'll bring the smile/It's been so long since you've been down in the kitchen baby /My desire's running longer than a country mile.”)
The pre-chorus is sung. (“So true, you can make all my wishes/So real, you can make all my dreams/And if you're good baby/I'll even let you break the dishes/Come on get some, get some, get some /In Martika's kitchen baby/Oh we're talkin' about the kitchen.”)
The breeze from the window cools down her arms. She can hear dance music as people walk by, holding their boomboxes on their shoulders. The guys show off for their girlfriends, trying to impress them and make them laugh. She doesn’t care if they can hear her moan and scream. (“Don't you just love spring time in the city /Ba-Ba-Boom box kick-kick-kickin' out the latest jams/Boys dancin’ for all the girls lookin’ so pretty/Love is in the air /Inhibitions be damned.”)
The bridge is sung. (“So true, you can make all my wishes /So real, you can make all my dreams/And if you're good baby, I'll even let you break the dishes/Come on get some, get some, get some /In Martika's kitchen baby/Ooh we're talkin' about the kitchen/The table is set /The oven is hot /Baby when we get started/We won't ever stop/Come on, get some /Get, get, get some/You can make all my wishes/Come on baby let me hear you say you're with it/Come on sweetie if you're good, I'll let you get it/I don't care, I've got the chair/If you think your butt'll fit it/You turn me all the way up, I admit it.”)
A variation of the first verse is sung. (“Come on get some /In Martika's kitchen baby/You bring the noise and I'll bring the smile/It's been so long since you've been down to the kitchen baby/My desire's running longer than a country mile/So T are you true.”)
A second bridge is sung. (“The table is set The oven is hot/Baby when we get started we won't ever stop.”)
A variation of the first verse and pre-chorus is sung. (“Come on get some in Martika's kitchen baby/You bring the noise and I'll bring the smile/So true, you can make all my wishes/So real, you can make all my dreams.”)
A variation on the chorus is sung to end the single. And if you're good baby, I'll even let you break the dishes/I'll even let you break the dishes/Come on get some, get some, get some/In Martika's kitchen baby/You can make all my wishes/The kitchen baby /You can make all my dreams/The kitchen baby/I'll even let you break the dishes/Martika's kitchen baby /Get some, get some, get some/In Martika's kitchen baby/In Martika's kitchen baby.”)
Martika lets her voice get low and smoky. It’s full of lust and she’s the one in control. The lyrics subverts the entire dutiful stay at home wife. No one is going to tell her how she’s going to live her life.
The animalistic “Martika’s Kitchen” is pure desire.
