You never "installed" StyleXP, you only hacked a dll.

They are dissimilar programs.

Actually,

The newest version of StyleXP does not really hack the dll. Early versions did and actually replaced the uxtheme.dll file with one that was altered to accept msstyles that were not signed by microsoft. The new version may do something similar in memory, but does not change the file, per se.

The programs are similar in some ways, but Windowblinds does much more and is highly configurable. StyleXP is extremely limited in the sense that you have some very small parameters to work within when designing a "skin".

I use both programs, but usually stick with running Windowblinds. There is the occasional skin for the other program that catches my eye, so I will go back and forth.

I enjoy Windowblinds and Stardock software so much that I could not ever just use StyleXP. As a matter of fact, I am about to purchase another Object Desktop subscription.

Yeah... basically Object Desktop... you want not just winstyles... winstyles is a part of object desktop that applys skins for every thing... and a whole winstyles suite contains more than just styles xp... ive seen suites with skins for up to 16 programs on your computer... of course the important ones are all included with objectd desktop...

Style XP still hacks the DLL. It just patches it in RAM instead of the physical file. That's why you have to update it every time they do a new service pack for XP.
