Music Review: Katy Tiz "The Big Bang"

Katy Tiz

The Big Bang

Album: TBA

Year: 2014

Katy Tiz wants the permenant rush of love from her boyfriend in the presumptous  ‘The Big Bang.”

Sashaying synths open the single, setting an arrogant tone.  He stops before passing her by and gazes into her eyes. After their moment, she smiles to herself. He’s going to go to ask her out. He’s not going to get scared. It makes her excited. (“I don't wanna lie/I'm gonna take what you're givin'/Cause I know you're willing/To take me all the way/You got me right here, combustible/And I can't wait to finally explode.”)

In the chorus, she says it’ll change her world. Her life will be entirely different with him as part of it. (“The big, big bang/The reason I'm alive/When all the stars collide in this universe inside/The big, big Bang/The big, big bang.”)

She thinks for herself. A couple of her friends think he’s a jerk. However, she knows he’s a good guy. Around him, she wants to be a better person. She thinks of them on her dream date. They walk hand in hand, their bare feet in the sand. Their strong connection would be obvious to everyone. (“Some people like to talk/But I'm into doing/What I feel like doing/When I'm inspired/So if we had a walk down/The beach tonight/I bet that we could light up the sky.”)

           The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, she says she’s numb from the previous heartbreaks she’s had. There is no one who really gets her except him. Any chance she has to see him or talk to him, she’ll grab it. She doesn’t want to think about what might happen, she wants to make it real. (“Take it from me/ I don't wanna be mummified/Sometimes I feel so isolated/I wanna die/And I'll take it from you if you got it/Every time, so, baby, bring your body here/Next to mine, next to mine/I don't want to dream/I just want to live it/So, baby, let's just not miss this thing.”)

             The chorus is sung again.

A final section ends the single. (“Hit the big big big bang/Whoa, babe/Whoa, babe/Whoa, babe.”)

In 2010, the song was originally done by Rock Mafia for the LOL soundtrack. The lyrics are kept the same. A suave guitar opens the single, setting a confident tone. James wants something more and he knows it’s right with her. He loses his breath from even talking to her. She is it.

Tiz can talk but it’s unlikely she can back it up. The guy is going to love her. Everyone else does. He’s no exception. Unlike James, she lacks the allure to pull people in and to care. She simply doesn’t have the power behind her voice.

The hubristic “The Big Bang” is best done by Rock Mafia.
