Nasty. But risk of the trade (or whatever it is called). Car's crash, boats sink, planes crash and space shuttles do to.

Let's hope, for their families' sake, that they figure out what happened fast. The worst thing, aside from the loss crew, must be not knowing what has happened.

Cutting-edge technology, and only 100 years of powered flight.
No amount of fail-safe redundancy will guarantee success.

We'll all be thinking of the crew and their families....

Also be praying for the people on the ground.

This really sucks. I hope it was quick. I couldent believe it. It was on TV where I saw it. Bummer.

There is abundant Mercy when one needs it most, and I believe the crew found it just in time...

What can one say ..... I remember the Challenger.
I've never ceased to be impressed watching a launch or a landing.
Some things can never be taken for granted ....

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings,
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I woke up this morning expecting to hear the double sonic booms I normally hear when the shuttle flys over my house to land. I was shocked to realize it wasn't going to land. I watched Columbia blast off in it's maidian voyage in 1980...and now to see it meet it's end in such a way. My heart goes out to those close to the astronauts that lost their lives. I've always been one to watch the shuttles launch (I can see them from my house) and we were photographing Challenger from work when it exploded so that had quite an impact on me. I hope those in power can understand that this is a risky business and sometimes the unexpected can and will happen and not overreact to it. The Astronauts understand that.

I remember the shock I felt when Challenger blew up. I could hardly think that day during school. Now I feel the same shock, sadness. I've always been interested in space and hearing about space exploration. I hope that this exploration continues. Thinking about all the strife and war or possible wars, the international space station has been a symbol of peace and co-operation. Maybe they will replace the shuttle fleet with something newer/safer. Aren't the shuttles built with something like 1960's technology? I think I read that once somewhere, though they are saying that age of the shuttle was probably not the problem here.

This is horrible news. I live in North Central Texas in a liitle town called Paradise. We heard the boom this morning and felt it shake everything. I couldn't believe it. All I could think about was the families watching and waiting for them. So, So sad.

I would also like to add that my prayers are with them and may God bless them and help them get through this tragedy.
