New Members - Suggestions

Have read many threads lately regarding people who seem to think the site should be free and then complain when their 50Mb cap is reached. It seems appropriate to remind new members their status is temporary, and encourage them to become full paying members. One suggestion is their title be altered to something like 'Registered Guest' or similar, to separate them from the large number of decent Citizens who have paid their dues. New members should also be made more aware of the benefits of full membership. People who go away disappointed or disillusioned are members lost.

Not every one is a pc or internet expert. Another suggestion would be to have more links to the FAQ. It should appear on every page in a prominent position. Most questions on the message board are from people who haven't noticed the FAQ. At the least it should be made easier to see.

A positive attitude will ensure the site grows in the right way with a higher proportion of paying members. It should be the ambition of all new members to become a Citizen, and the ambition of all Citizens to encourage new members. A healthy well funded site benefits everyone.

FL exponding in clear logic - what's the world coming to? Every word that you said was excellent, and i hope that the powers that be adopt your suggestions.

I wish I had said that.

What would really help is exactly what you say, a way to differentiate between new users and floaters.

I really think that 'Registered Guest' is a more polite term then I would apply to someone, so I say go with that. Then the next level up, 'Citizen'. And finally 'Deity'?

Also I would make the shareware version of the SkinBrowser a different color.

Fuzzy, I could just *Smooooooooooch* you to death! ()

What a wonderful, insightful and intelligent post!

I especially love your statement, "Not every one is a pc or internet expert. Another suggestion would be to have more links to the FAQ" Boy, I couldn't agree more! It would be nice if it could be available as a link on every thread so it's easier to nav for newbies in need of help etc.

And I also agree 100% on the idea of us all pitching in to do our part and be welcoming and kind and friendly rather than grumpy and cynical and snotty/snobby. I think that does EVERYONE a world of good and not just the newbies or the future purchase-ees.

Otay, enough of my blabbin'!

BTW...You're too precious you ol' fuzzer wuzzer bear! hehe

A big smooch from Shmoopy - sigh, makes it worth being alive

BTW, I asked around at work (pc users), and only my colleague in IT knew what FAQ stood for. Interesting!

Get a room, for sheesh's sake!
BTW I agree with Fuzzy's post. I'm non-contributing member who still considers himself a newbie and I am extremely grateful for the fantastic pieces of work ppl contribute. The cost is very good value for what one can get in return, so get your pennie out folks.

Another oddball off-the-wall suggestion.

On the Author Info page, along with the Author, Nick, UserID info, include a Member Since field.

That way you can tell just how new a person is.

You can tell how new a member is by his member number.

/me is 829

You know I thought of a emoticon to fill the void.
One that appears to be ducking from the fall-out of whatever the poster got themselves into this time.

werewolf, the userid is a good indication of length of membership, but not a precise indicator. I know by the number 829 that you have been here since about the begining, but based on the number 218859 how long have I been here? 1 year, 2? 6 months?

Being a db kinda guy, I'm betting that that the member since info is stored somewhere. I know if it were my db it would be.

Maybe the link to the FAQ should read "Answers to all your questions about customization HERE"

BoXXi: your link doesn't work

Great idea Fuzzy! It should at least cut down on some of the trolling. /me has fingers crossed.

Phreak notes "Then the next level up, 'Citizen'. And finally 'Deity'?"

The pantheon includes Jafo, Janitor T-man, Koasti and of course the frog.

Most definately.

anyone who's UserID has less then 4 numbers deserves the status of deity automatically.

I would like to nominate werewolf for deity as well.
