Alp, you probably have XP's built in fire-wall enabled.
I can't remember where the settings are to congifure it to allow you to send files, but I'm sure that' what's causing the problems.

Doesn't anyone else see the irony in MSN having issues with XP? he he

Do you have XP Pro or Home?
I had MSN on XP and didn't have any problems. Is this MSN 7 or 8? If you only have 7, you may need to upgrade to 8. Also, you may have your internet security too high, or have the firewall enabled (as is suggested already)

Well it would be ironic, if it wasn't MS......

The thread title says XP Pro.

To disabled the XP firewall, go to Control Panel, Network Connections, open the properties dialog for your internet connection, Advanced Tab.

more information on your end of things is needed to really get into this.

1 on a network?

2 have a firewall?
if you have a hardware firewall, what brand?

3 have a NAT ( Network Address Translation device), many simple cable and dsl router/gateways employ NAT technologies... Linksys, Netgear, Microsoft, SMC, and so forth.
If you do have a NAT device, what brand?

4 Do you have Administrator access to the sepcific system you are wanting to transfer files with?

5 If on a company network, do you have permission to set this up eve if you can? because if you do not you might find it is grounds for instant dismissle, they should have an Email and Internet Use Policy, if so read it and ask.

Personally my first place to look if on a company network would be IT and if they say no ask why and listen to the reasons explained.

With NAT or certain Firewall devices you have to enable UPnP Universil Plug and Plag, which opens your computer up to serious threat as long as it is connected to any network including the internet.

Which lends to the fact that if this is a personal network, you need to consider security of your home network or the specific system.

Anyway...

little bit more info and it cna be fixed, but the real question here is do you want it fixed?
