See You Again
Album: Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus
Year: 2007
Miley Cyrus attempts talking to her crush again in the single-minded “See You Again.”
Resolute synths open the single, setting an unfaltering tone. There’s no one else at school she wants but him. She’s going to flirt with all her might. No one is going to tell her no. She can still hear the way he says her name. He softens the end of it, making it sound like a short musical. She believes in what she feels. Her instincts tell her he would be great for her. There is no need for her to spell out what she needs. He’s already knows. He understands her in a way no one else does. (“I got my sights set on you/And I'm ready to aim/I have a heart that will/Never be tamed/I knew you were something special/When you spoke my name/Now I can't wait to see you again/I've got a way of knowing/When something is right/I feel like I must have known you/In another life/Cause I felt this deep connection/When you looked in my eyes/Now I can't wait to see you again.”)
In the chorus, she remembers her last conversation with him. She could hardly get any words out. He sought out her best friend and asked if he had done anything to upset her. Her friend said she was just nervous. She vows to not look foolish around him. She wants another chance to show him what she’s really like. (“The last time I freaked out/I just kept looking down/I stuttered when you asked me what I'm thinking about/Felt like I couldn't breathe/You asked what's wrong with me/My best friend Lesley said "Oh she's just being Miley"/The next time we hang out/I will redeem myself/My heart can rest till then /Now I can't wait to see you again.”)
She squeals after she hangs up the phone. He still really likes her! She didn’t screw up as much as she thought she did. (“I got this crazy feeling deep inside/When you called and asked to see me tomorrow night/I'm not a mind reader but I'm reading the signs/That you can't wait to see me again.”)
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, she’s going to get him to be her boyfriend. (“I got my sight set on you and I'm ready to aim,”)
An extended chorus is sung to close the single. (“The last time I freaked out/I just kept looking down… Now I can't wait to see you again/Now I can't wait to see you again.”)
Cyrus won’t let her nerves get to her. She’s practiced a couple conversations. She will be prepared. She can’t let him have a bad impression of her. Her huskiness gives her vocals a natural sensuality. It’s as though she’s staring a hole right into her crush. Unfortunately, Cyrus has decided the 2007 version of her was wrong.
The solid “See You Again” is Cyrus at her best.

See You Again (Rock Mafia Remix)
Album: Breakout
Year: 2008
Rock Mafia speed up the original, giving it some extra energy. They add more instrumentation: strings and playing up the twangy guitar. They turn the single into a standoff between Cyrus and her nerves. The sensuality in her vocals are downplayed, though. It simply becomes newfound confidence.
The self-reliant “See You Again” improves upon the original, changing it up quite a bit without ruining it.
