I Really Like You
Album: E-MO-TION

Carly Rae Jepsen finally spills her feelings for her crush in the sufficient “I Really Like You.”
Rapturous synts open the single, setting a breathless tone. Her head rests on his shoulder as they watch a movie. It’s natural for her to be affectionate with him. She puts her hand on his, hoping he will take it and clasp into his. He’s a great guy and became her best friend right away. She can’t stop smiling whenever she talks about him to her friends and family. (“I really wanna stop/But I just gotta taste for it/I feel like I could fly with the ball on the moon/So honey hold my hand you like making me wait for it/I feel I could die walking up to the room, oh yeah.”)
In the pre-chorus, usually they are open with each other. They discuss everything that comes into their minds. However, their feelings for each other have not even been touched upon. They’ll only known each other a month or two. She isn’t ready to have his babies yet but wants something more than a boyfriend-esque best friend. She lifts her head up and says she has something important to say. (“Late night watching television/But how we get in this position?/It's way too soon, I know this isn't love/But I need to tell you something.”)
In the chorus, she tells him she would like to go out on an actual date with him. Is that something he would like? His stunned face catches her off guard. She tells him she’s been thinking about it for a while. (“I really really really really really really like you/And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?/I really really really really really really like you/And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?/Oh, did I say too much?/I'm so in my head/When we're out of touch/I really really really really really really like you/And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?”)
She tells him she likes talking with him and they have interesting conversations. She wants to know what makes him tick. Sooner or later, someone was going to say something. She couldn’t take it anymore. (“It's like everything you say is a sweet revelation/All I wanna do is get into your head/Yeah we could stay alone, you and me, and this temptation/Sipping on your lips, hanging on by thread, baby.”)
The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.
She tells he has beautiful eyes. She could get lost in them. She reaches for her purse and says him she has to go. She’s afraid of his answer. She can’t believe it she said something. Oh my god. What’s going to happen to them now? (“Who gave you eyes like that?/Said you could keep them/I don't know how to act/The way I should be leaving/I'm running out of time/Going out of my mind/I need to tell you something/Yeah, I need to tell you something.”)
An extended chorus ends the single. (“I really really really really really really like you…I really really really really really really like you/And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?/I really really really really really really like you/And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?”)
Jepsen has a conversational style to her vocals, which works for the lyrics. She had to know. It was bothering her. She emotes the the nervousness after her confession well.
The modest “I Really Like You” essentially picks up where her last single left off but the overuse of the word “really” is grating.
