Need a new computer...

I can't seem to make a working theme on mycomputer anymore. It is hard to test something when it keeps crashing. My computer is pretty old and held up but now it is showing its age.

My laptop is gone so all I got is my old desktop. I was wondering what type of new laptop should I get? Do you guys have any suggestions? Is windowblinds, objectbar and desktopX run at the same time? what about windowFX? that too...

Every thing use to work on my laptop... but now I can't even play around with some of the programs because my desktop can't go on the internet anymore (so I have to use my sisters )

Help!

That's interesting.

I know I got air flow I got a dual fan system in the top dock, a fan board at the bottom and once I get my powersupply fan fixed. I'll have that

Cavanaugh: A lot of spontaneous reboots and things like that are cause by video drivers. I had problems when I first installed XP, but when I updated the drivers to the Catalyst 3 set, they all went away.

" A lot of spontaneous reboots and things like that are cause by video drivers."

Well, one of the causes of them! ^_~ the other things mentioned will all cause the same symptoms - but yes! I didn't even think of video drivers - those could be a possibility too.

You're right Cavanaugh - 41C isn't too bad - and I'd think it would probably be better with it on the cart rather than under the desk.

If it isn't video - what about your memory? Are you using aggresive timings? That usually doesn't cause /shutdowns/ - but I've seen it cause odd problems and STOP errors.

If it is shutdowns, and not reboots, I'd be inclined to rule out video - but it never hurts. Check the temperature monitor in your BIOS settings too - sometimes those are set ridiculously conservative. There's just so many things it could be: Power supply, cooling, drivers, memory timings, other BIOS settings, CPU going flaky on you...

Cavanaugh: Have you checked your events viewer to see if there is any indication of what is happening?

make sure you have at least the distance of one dirve between all drives if possible and also the mounting bracket below the bottom drive or above the top drive.

heat can cause some real issues because it changes the resistance in the electronics of the drive.

just an after thought

It must have been a temperature problem or something unseated cuz i followed weaksid's advice and redid the cabling and moved the whole box up off the floor onto the printer cart and no problems since! I love you guys!

As I was thinking. For you to build a system under $100, you'll need connections and alot of free stuff. Or trade like the black market.
