U.P. Chairmanship gives WAY too much Influence

I didn't see the results of this immediately, but over a long game, I gradually saw how insane the influence boost was from controlling the UP. Just being elected the chairman once was enough for races like the Thalans to absorb both the Krynn and the Drengin without even trying. Next, the Iridium Corp got elected, and even though they were all the way on the other side of the map from my territory, and I had influence starbases, they started absorbing me!

Something seems to be up with how influence is calculated in general. If that's how powerful owning the UP is, I might start turning it off just so the game stays playable into the late game.

Sometimes it seems the devs over-react to complaints (and some they seem to ignore).

In previous betas it seemed the human player was almost always made the Chairman, now it seems they have put in arbitrary negative votes, (or something).

I can almost guarantee a custom race will not be elected and since B5.3, I have not been elected regardless of power rating and popularity.

Yes, I have to agree. I have only been playing with the custom race I created for myself and despite having the most influence, power and military with everyone being "close" to me, I've only had one other minor race vote for me... A bit extreme toward the other end of the spectrum. Can't wait to see how it's been tweaked in B6 though.

I started a new game with 5.3, using a custom race I had created in 5.2.  I was elected UP Chairman with several major races voting for me.  Haven't tried it with a race created in 5.3, if that's the difference.

Well there you go...I'm wrong as usual :)

I have gotten elected, too, with my custom race. Hmmm.

I don't think you are wrong, I think they just don't like you.  :)

I am expecting all this behavior stuff to change several times while the AI is evolving, therefore, it isn't something I am prepared to be worried about just yet.  So, don't take it personally.  :)

Hmm, I had my first custom race elected with a solid majority of both minors and majors, and in a later game, literally everyone voted for me.

The entire galaxy.

In my latest game, I defied the UP, suffered no setbacks, and proceeded to absorb everyone nearby.  I'm currently in control of about 45% of an excessive map, without the UP bonus.

I have no idea who is the leader of the UP at the moment, that might be interesting to check.

I find it mildly annoying my trusted, cherished allies are devoured by my culture.

Apparently in this universe, there's no such thing as friendly, longstanding relationships.
