Music Review: Labrinth "Let The Sun Shine"

Labrinth
Let The Sun Shine
Album: Electronic Earth
Year: 2010
Labrinth enjoys a summer day in the inert   “Let The Sun Shine.”

Sparkling synths open the single, setting a joyous tone.  He pushes his bangs back. By the time he gets the party, his hair will be messed up. But it’s not a big deal. Winter is officially over. From his convertible, he sees people out walking their dogs. Some people are jogging. He can hear cheering from the baseball being played as he passes by a school. He’s heading to a barbecue. He checks his phone at the traffic light. His friend says he isn’t sure he’s going to come. He’s not to know anyone. He responds back for him to come anyway. It’ll be fun and tells him he’s on his way to pick him up. (“I feel a cold flush going through my hair/And hey you know what/I don't even care/The time has passed me by/It's gone with the wind/It's all because the sun shined once again/Now the party's on/Everybody's there/And if you don't know anyone/You'll still meet some new friends/That's the way it is/When I have myself a drink/All because the sun shines once again.”)

In the chorus, he’s excited and wants to relax. No more staying inside. (“Let the sunshine/Let the sunshine baby/Let it all go/Let it all go baby/Let the sunshine/Let the sunshine baby/Let it all go/Let it all go baby.”)

The barbecue has become a bonfire. The only light in the backyard is the fire burning. It’s the best day of his life. He friend begins to play his guitar and he starts clapping along. (“So turn the lights off/Ain't no one afraid/When the night comes/It'll be just like the day/And without the day/I am glowing from within/All because the sun shined once again/So play that sweet tune/Play it through the air/And the volume/Raise it up/Don't you ask me twice/You know I'm gonna bid/All because the sun shined once again.”)

           The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, he says people are going to be in a good again. It’s a wonderful time. (“I know that the world is gonna smile again/When we go from the darkness into the light/Let the sun shine/Let the sun shine.”)

The chorus is sung again to end the single.

Labrinth is far too mellow from all the beers. He’s simply lounging around and not doing too much. He’d rather let the synths do the work for him.

The lagging “Let The Sun Shine” is the cold snap right after the beautiful day.
