Music Review: Carrie Underwood "Undo It"

Carrie Underwood
Undo It
Album: Play On
Year: 2010

Carrie can’t get rid of her immature ex-boyfriend in the   vexed  “Undo It.”

A provoked guitar opens the single, setting a riled tone. His smile was too spot on. He just knew the right words to say to her. Before she knew it, they were dating and involved in a serious relationship in a matter of weeks. She didn’t even time to think through what was going on. (“I should've known by the way you passed me by/There was something in your eyes and it wasn't right/I should've walked, but I never had the chance/Everything got out of hand, and I let it slide.”)

In the pre-chorus, she caught up in her emotions. Otherwise, she would’ve saw through his manipulation. Even though the relationship is over, she’s still dealing with his co-dependent mother who keeps calling her. She has tons of unpaid bills that he left her. She misses the calm in her life she had. (“Now I only have myself to blame/For falling for your stupid games/I wish my life could be the way/It was before I saw your face.”)

In the chorus, she feels conned by him. He took advantage of her kindness. She wants to forget it even happened. She no longer sees the strong, loving man she fell for. He’s a coward who can’t handle things by himself. (“You stole my happy, you made me cry/Took the lonely, and took me for a ride/And I wanna undo it/You had my heart, now I want it back/I'm starting to see everything you lack/Boy you blew it, you put me through it/I wanna undo it.”)

She “na na’s” for a bit.

She threw away every picture she had of him and removed him from her social media accounts. She likes to pretend her life with him didn’t exist. She tossed whatever he left at her house. She didn’t want to call him and have the drama start all over again. (“Now your photos don't have a picture frame/And I never say your name, and I never will/And all your things, well, I threw them in the trash/And I'm not even sad.”)

In the pre-chorus, he’s heard he’s dating someone else. He likely told her the same sob stories she knows all too well. He’s all about himself and what he can get. (“Now you only have yourself to blame/For playing all those stupid games/You're always going to be the same/Oh no, you'll never change.”)

                  The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, she’ll occansionally get text messages from him, asking if they could be friends still. She deletes them right away. She’s done. She’s trying to figure out what’s going to happen to her credit. (“You want my future, you can't have it/I'm still trying to erase you from my past/I need you gone so fast.”)

               The chorus is sung once.

An edited chorus ends the single. (“You stole my happy, you made me cry/Took the lonely, and took me for a ride/Boy you blew it, you put me through it/I wanna undo it.”)

Underwood’s going to snap. Her life is a mess because she believed for a moment that love at first sight could exist. She feels like an idiot. But he’s not going to get the best of her, either. The only time he’ll deal with her now is through a lawyer.

The   cross    “Undo It” means buisness.
