bug or oversight?

So I was playing vs the A.I and during an auction I bought out the A.I that had made the largest bid for 1 extra claim but after time became unpaused I got no extra claim and the A.I couldn't have used the claim since I owned him before he got the claim.

In the end it was like the auction had never happened.
