Any advice on buying Object Desktop?

Hi guys, I am a newbie. I found out by accident about WindowBlinds the other day when I was surfing (I must have been under that rock longer than I thought ) and I want to say this is cool SH*T! I tried to trail version of WindowBlinds with a OS X look alike and it rules over the standard XP desktop. So I am thinking of officially buying it but I see there is a new product from StarDock called Object Desktop and it seems to be even better!

Do you guys have any experience with Object Desktop and is it worth the $50USD?

Thanks for you help.

Windowblinds is part of ObjectDesktop. I have it and it's well worth the money.

Object Desktop contains windowblinds, desktop x, iconpackager, and a host of other products to liven up your desktop. It's well worth the investment, it's cheaper than buying things one at a time and you get a lot of added bonus for your money.

anything you want to do can be done with object desktop, and if you buy it now... it will be just in time to get windowblinds 4.0... which is only for object desktop users... it should availible in beta any day now.... and it has so much skinning capability than the current windowblinds click here http://www.windowblinds.net/wb4/ really bad a$#

Thanks guys for the advice. I am going to download it right now! It says I get one year worth of updates.

Last set of questions:

1. If I get both WindowBlinds and DesktopX in the package, can I use both of them at the same time or do I have to choose to run one or the other at a given time?

2. What are the major differences between WindowBlinds and DesktopX? Don't they kind of do the same thing?

Thanks again... and many thanks to all of the talented people out there that spend their time creating these great skins! Awesome work.

Hey, Vargo. To answer your questions:

1. Yes, you can use them both at the same time. They compliment each other well.

2. No, they don't do the same thing. Windowblinds skins applications windows and if you are on XP, then also the taskbar and system tray. DesktopX will give your desktop a complete makeover to pretty much whatever your imagination can come up with.

I am getting ready to enter my third year as an Object Desktop subscriber and it is some of the best money that I have ever spent on software.

Hahaha... like going to the Microsoft site and saying "Should I buy XP?"

Impartial advice. Not.

Vargo, you won't be disappointed if you purchase the whole kit (which I HIGHLY recommend!).

Impartial, maybe not... But there is a ton of experience with OD here. And all these people aren't here for the free coffee!

I think you'll like it... desktop x skins the shell... anything to do with the desktop... the way the system works for the most part... adds alot of functionality... or a different look... window blinds skins the windows... makes the title bars and such look different... the two of them are actually meant to work together... I wouldn't recommend one with out the other...

Or you can ask Dokt and get reasoned, intelligent informed advice without favour or bias, totally balanced and honest.

Ryan...it's the one on the 'Rapid Access' keyboard by IBM that they cleverly didn't bother to update drivers for 2000 or XP, making people fork out more bucks for a later model keyboard.....forced obsolescence......'IBM' = 'Industrial Bloody Mindedness'.

[damn...there's that sarcasm again]....

well, better try it first and see wether you like it. that´s why there are trial versions

it´s good software, but with some bad luck your computer might not like it (i had some pretty bad experiences in the past), the performance also depends on your operating system.

Thanks everyone for your help with my questions! I love this stuff. So far I have been using WindowBlinds, IconPackager, and ObjectDock. I thing the "zooming" on ObjectDock is too cool!!!

I have not had much time to try the DesktopX but it is next. I think the $49 was well spent.

Last question? Why did MS not do this stuff themsleves????

MS was busy with creating the OS itself....it was up to creative, inventive minds to find ways to 'enhance' the computing experience.
With the advent of XP, MS has taken a large step forward towards desktop customizing/modification...and there'll be more to come...
