Icon Packager Problems

i have registered icon packager and i recently downloaded the skin suite "foundation", the package shows icons for all the music files and in the start menu it should have an icon for run, search, and help and support, and in the start menu the icons for my pictures and my music are missing, they only show up as my normal xp folders, most everything as far as music and movie files all have a question mark, i tried doing this manually through icon packager, and it shows that it has all the proper icons for everything, yet when i go to load and apply, they remain the same...is there any way to fix this problem?

i even tryed un-installing icon packager, and i tryed to set all my icons to default, and they won't show up, in my start menu i have missing icons, does this mean icon packager messed up my computer? or is there a way on my computer to manually set all the icons back?

I have a program called "Tweak Now Customizer XP" it has an option to rebuild windows icons. ie: the wrong icons are being displayed for your programs, it fixes it so that the original icons show again. I do believe you can download the shareware version and use this feature. http://www.tweaknow.com hope this helps.

I would suggest re-installing iconpackager. Then from Tools, click Restore All Icons. Then rebuild the icon cache. As for the start menu icons not showing, on the right side of the main screen under "Include" there are seven different sections to use custom icons. Be sure you have the Start Menu Icons checked. And be sure the choices are all checked before restoring the icons.

Hope this helps.

thanks jebland, but it still isn't working i installed icon packager again and i found that if you right click most any icons it will let you change them manually, well oddly enough wehn i go to apply it tells me to upgrade to the registered version, ummmm well, you see, i did that already...i'm entirely lost on this whole thing, i guess i'll have to reformat everything and start from scratch, i also heard there is a file you can delete, like the icon cache file...where is it? and would that mess up my computer?

Oh I wouldn't format right yet, but I would go ahead and download the shareware version of System Mechanic from this site http://www.iolo.com/sm/ and install it. Once installed I would have it scan and remove all orphan link's, dll's, registry entries, ect. This will ensure that all of Iconpacker is removed as well as anything else you happened to have installed and uninstalled which left un-needed registry entries in there. This will slow your system to some extent because the registry for the most part is a data-store (db file)
which is scanned constantly when you load a program or for various calls to dll,s product registration info, pointers to locations of folders and files needed to operate your OS.

It could very well not be Iconpacker causing your problem, but that the problem shows up within the use of Iconpacker. Meaning, something in the registry could very well be playing ninny with Iconpacker...

anyway, uninstall, clean your registry and system of reg-entries, files not needed.

Then reinstall and see if that works for you, it should also clear up your issue with Iconpacker requesting you to purchase the enhanced verison .

Also when you install the enhanced verision with everything previously to do with the public or enhanced version removed from your registry you will really have a clean install.

hope it works, if not I would see what is loading with windows, and remove each thing so windows loads vanillia, then add iconpacker, check that it works, and if it does, add each thing and test in turn to make sure nothing else loading with windows is messing you/IP up.

actually, it saves a compressed image of your registry entries that are removed so they can be replaced. And not, it is a * smart * program that will not kill your system...

Though I fully understand you concern over such a suggestion.

I do not use it myself, but do suggest it to others, family included because I do feel it is
safe and it keeps me from having to drive the 15 - 45 miles, or spending hours on the phone before I decide to make the trip to fix my brother or mothers computer every othe month or so.

One reason I need to pick up a DVD burned is I can setup and configure their systems with the basic applications and tweaks they can't live without. Ghost the boot drive, DVD burn the image and the Ghost to restore the image and then burn a copy of that so I have one on file and they have one to restore from.
