Sorry to hear, Uvah. I thought you were in your own place...were there any surveillance cams where you were?

Have you notified the Police?

Unless you live in a place where you can lock the doors and windows when you leave DO NOT LEAVE IT UNATTENDED.

The world i not a nice place unless you have the means to make it so. Hope you get it back in one piece.

Ross, you'd lose yer balls if they weren't in a bag and kept with you. It doesn't matter where you live or who your friends are.  I've had far more stolen by so called "friends" than I have ever lost to strangers. (I know who they are, and paid a damn good price to find out HOW they are.) You, my friend must be a really sloooooow learner.

Hint: Laptops are PORTABLE. Carry the damn thing with you....everywhere....and I do mean everywhere. Handcuff the thing to your wrist. Treat it like a body part.

That said, you DID at least record the serial number somewhere  and engrave your name on the unit, right?...Yeah, that's what I figgered.

Sorry to hear that Uvah. Do you have all your pertanent info, IP address, Mac address, Serial number etc.. It is extremely difficult to recover such items, but not impossible. You must be willing to jump thru hoops to even have a chance to get it back. Here are some links to sites that provide the info to attempt a recovery. My advice for the future Install Dropbox, Gmail, and Facebook. So you can view the last activity on your sites and possibly get the IP that the thief or person that bought it. Do report it to the police to get the ball rolling. And if you have insurance. In the future install Prey, or some other tracking software! It won't be easy but I hope this helps.

I had a cable lock on it and yes Andy I still have the Acer. The cable lock was busted off. I still have the receipt with the serial number on it and the date it was purchased. Made a police report too. The whole nine!

"According to reports, the malicious advertising -- or 'malvertising', as it's being called -- appeared on 22 different websites, including realestate.aol.com, and several Yahoo pages, including Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Sports."

Thanks for the heads up, Doc. I never go to the Yahoo sites, per se, I just use Yahoo Mail. And when browsing, the LAST thing I would do is click on any of the adverts, unless entirely by accident. (Which does happen)

From where? How? When?

I don't understand. What is a cable lock and if it IS what I think it is, do they offer any kind of guarantees or back-up their product? And where does this happen so I know to avoid such places.

me thinks you need one of these.... they come in multiple/smaller sizes for camera bags etc.... 5 mins is 4 mins and 50 seconds more than is needed to whip something...

hope it turns up..  :(

Its a steel cable with a loop and combo lock that fits in the side of the laptop. Laptop's case is plastic. Were it metal it might not have broken.
