I've been around for a while, and the first thing i notice is that people are downloading walls because of the author. (or my walls just sux )
For example, if there is a citizen around here, and he uploads a really awesome wall, people are gonna download it, and it has something about 2000 downloads.
BUT, if a well known person uploads a wall, (like treetog, adni18, ds-custom, (SORRY, Your walls are great!) that isn't as nice as the wall of the citizen, people will download it 5000 times.

This means 1: I have a verry bad taste, or 2: people download walls becouse of the name.
So all the people, please don't look to the name, and download some stuff of newbies, it makes them feeeel goooood!

it did suck, but because people downloaded it over 1000 times, i was going on with making walls, and the result isn't to bad i think.

If I put something crappy up I'm sure I'll hear about it soon enough

With skinning, it seems to me (just by observation) that it's hard to try and do something "super original" and yet functional and clean...sooooo, guess I'm going to be studying for a long time before I brave the actual uploading of a skin.

joetheblow, I have seen ones that worked get rejected from more than one skinner. I will not name names, but I have seen it.

I agree with Hippy...Foremost you should take pleasure in making your work You just can't expect everybody likes it. Especially when you try something totally out of context. I have once said here that ski-jumper Boklov got bad marks for his V-style. But he jumped further than most...Finally everyone jumps like that now...It's just your choice, whether you want to please a crowd, or have fun with making a skin and share it with those who like to use it.

I think my desktop looks so much better when i start my computer and the first thing that i see is this huge "atomic pearl" image, and then i remember that i made it, and it just feel so gooooood .
But here again, sharing it with people, and give some nice work to them, is also a great fealin.

Styl skinners: since you mentioned my name, I must to say that I agree with your topic, but don't agree when you tslk about my walls, in my opinion, most of my walls totally sucks.

Many times, I use to include them on my wb skins or the NS themes for me to not need to upload them as walls, in the walls sections, because me level here allowed me the auto post and if I would need to post them, as an admin I would moderate them all.

I just know VERY feel authors that are great on skins AND walls, allmost all of them are good on walls OR skins.

I also agree with what was posted above, the "suitable" walls tend to get more dlls because they are part of a complete envoiroment and matches better the rest of the skins.

Other then that, I have a lot of respect for the good wallpapers authors, I am not capable to make them look good.

WOM: Skins are not moderated by quality, Just a few sections have some very low cases of moderations.

the cases: We don't accept photo skins for Winamp or ICQ+, for LogonXP, we also moderate SOME photo skins, example (if you take a pick of your cat, in your backyard and make that picture a LogonXP skin, yes, very probably it will be moderated), copyrighted material, nudes, rips....well I think is that all, I can't remember any other kind of motif for a skin to be moderated.

For a good wall is only a little bit of talent from the author needed.
Try to fool around with bryce 5 for a while, its pretty simpel, and its an easy way to get a great effect

Do what I do, get your skins moderated by your family members first (they can tell you like it is.. I fust run my skins by my sis: if she likes it, I submit it to WC)

Wallpapers are the base for my desktop.(I view all in uploaded order) Then I try to co-ordinate a WB, icons and cursors. I dwnld walls that I like and my taste is quite varied. I used "hero or idol" in a post once, naming the artist and wish I never had. I was conveying one thing and it was taken as another. This artist's work is one that I really relate to, but his is not the only one. I really appreciate the ART here, which includes walls and skinning.

I download walls and skins for one of 4 reasons, nothing to do with who the author is....

1. I really like it.
2. I need to check if it is a rip.
3. I need to check it's all there [with permissions].
4. It's so atrociously bad that I just gotta have it.

So, when you find that I have DL'd one of yours....you'll have to ask yourself...."Am I feeling lucky, Punk?"...
