Gal-civ 3 alpha first thoughts and impressions

Disclaimer I am writing this as I play my first playthrough of the alpha these are my immediate thoughts when playing

setup

            – options

                  -tool-tips with basic explanations on what different options do

            -graphics

                    -info on if a certain option is graphics card or processor intensive

                    -is there a difference between large and small ui or does it need to be reset first?

            - sound

                   - option to keep playing sound when game is in background

            -input

                    - sort inputs by category  ( UI, camera, chat, etc)

 

              -Galaxy settings playing 1920x1080

                       -options look really thin; larger font?

                        -Popups I like that there in here even though we cant change anything yet

 

Game play

                - Mini-map

                        -not sure if this is intentional or not when clicking (and holding) on the minimap you can drag the mouse off of the map area and still

                         manipulate the large map

                                      - If this is intentional an outline or something to indicate the edges of the drag area would be nice.

 

                 -map

                           - Edge scroll speed Does not appear to be working does not appear to actually be in fullscreen mode

                 -Colonization

                           -Attempting to build on a tile that requires some form of terraforming (arid lands). Causes the selected upgrade to be built on the next

                            available tile

                           -Random event ‘swamped’ precursor ship buried in ice “much of the planet is flooded”  What does this mean? Is it just fluff info or is there a

                            penalty to available tiles?

 

those were my immediate thoughts gotta take a break for a few minutes and then ill work on some more

Colonization

                -Placing the food distribution upgrade does not place a pending build icon on the tile(image could be missing) causes the tile to go invisible

               -Colonization of ‘maia II’ the colony map shows earth with the tile grid appearing between earth and the moon looks like I’m placing my improvements in space

               - This glitch appears to have caused the earth-moon background on all my colony’s most have their own terrain on the tile map with the earth moon map

                in the background except for ‘maia II’ which shows the hex grid with tiles but no terrain and the earth moon in the background

 

Exploration – while not being able to order a unit outside its range it does not try to avoid crossing areas outside of its range

                -Survey ships can also go out of range to reach an anomaly

 

Research

                -The tech research coordination appears to give the research coordinator improvement at the same time the research coordination is unlocked (not when it

                   is researched but when you get the chance to research it)

Idle colony

                   -If a colony is idle (wealth or research based) I can no longer end my turn I either have to destroy a building and rebuild it or build a star port and

                   start producing ships even if I don’t want to

 user interface

               -Quick reference icons in planet list not appearing correctly currently showing

                (Wealth icon) wealth,   production,   (population icon) research value

                :This causes me to think that my research value is my population and my production value is just a random number floating there
