WinCustomize Browser Issues

Just curious how the WinCustomize Browser is working for everyone out there? With the implementation of the new server there were a few glitches along the way, so I was wondering if we have them all ironed out?

So let me know how its working for you!

So far so good. I noticed a problem thats not related to the site. When I have msn messenger open the Browser will not update the message board. When I close messenger the message board gets updated. Just a tidbit in case someone else has experienced that problem.

Pretty quick for me. I do get the occasional download problem. CursorX is causing a problem with the 2 newest Winstyles (Glass and Saber). I've had similar problems before but they usually straighten out the next day. I can't recall if I cleared cookies first.

Is it safe to clear the downloaded files list in SkinBrowser? I've got rather a lot there but I don't want to delete if it will screw up the skin on my machine. If that works ok, a block delete would be handy.

Well there it is. Downloaded and installed fine at home so it ain't Wincustomize at fault. Probably cookies.

I bet I spend more time on WC than on regular internet anymore. Takes a lot of time to read all those "Stardock is evil because they are forcing me to spend money" threads.

I occasionally get the 'twin entries' (for lack of a better term) problem when refreshing the new additions. Other than that, I haven't had any problems to speak of. Much faster than before! Thanks for all the tireless work T-Man!!

I do have a small problem T-Man. It happens whenever I try to start a new thread from within the browser. As soon as I press the 'Submit' button I just get the following:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'cLng'

/browser/sb_msgboard.asp, line 99

Hmmm, motion, by a strange co-incidence, that's the message I get when trying to create a new thread...

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Type mismatch: 'cLng'

/browser/sb_msgboard.asp, line 99

Cleared out all the cookies again (including the ones in hidden folders) still doesn't work

Please tell me how you cleared the ones in hidden folders.

Chef Garry - Yes you can clear out the downloaded files. If you have applied the files they then are already installed and still available via the individual programs. To delete wincustomize cookies try this link: https://www.wincustomize.com/killcookies.asp

Peff - re: twin entries. Yea, thats a known problem. Maybe one of these days I will try to tackle that problem. Low priority right now.

Motion & Fuzzy - I just made a change in the script, it might fix the problem. But even though you get that error does your message get posted?

jebland - you can either try https://www.wincustomize.com/killcookies.asp or do a file search on your system for *wincustomize*.txt and kill all those files.

Thanks T-Man, that cleared the cookies. FWIW, to click and apply the Winstyles theme still gives the CursorX error but dowload first, then apply works fine.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put in. I know this is free time and we appreciate the work!

I spent an entire week trying to get WC to set a cookie on my computer. I tried all your suggestions, and nothing worked. I discovered that the cookies that show in the Cache folders are really located in the Cookies folder. If you copy a cookie to the cache, it is hidden, and apparently unusable. (I had 217 hidden files in the cache) I tried to access cache files using console but I couldn't get past Content.IE5. I even deleted the cache files completely, no joy. I knew the problem was my computer because I logged on to WC from another computer at work and it set a cookie with no problem. It finally got fixed by updating IE from 5.01 to 5.5. That fixed it. The only thing I hate worse than something broke on the computer is when it gets fixed and I don't know why. And no, I didn't mess with the registry.

Somewhere along the line, WinCustomize Browser has stopped showing me previews of skins - both the thumbnail versio and the large version.

My apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere, but how can I fix this?

Lordvdr: Close WC, delete all cookies, temp files, etc. Open WC and refresh the library files. That should do it.

I was wondering about the subscription goodies. I have some suggestion as to what would be cool to have as an incentive to get the browser (other that the ones already provided)

Are you guys looking for more input?

If you are looking for more where to I send them?

Lordvdr: Yes make sure you update the site data and library files from the View menu. That should do the trick.

joetheblow, feel free to post your suggestions. We are not necessarily looking for new ideas but if something comes along that we like we will give it consideration.

What I would like to see in Browser is a ten to the page thumbnail preview for skins. Much better than opening up every single one.
