What about screensavers?

Just registered and got me my own personal wincustbrowser, because I've been safely "off the streets" for months sweating on some DesktopX themes and jealously (is this proper English? If not: please forgive and correct me) admiring the artists works of others. In a theme-zip I was gladly surprized finding a self-made screensaver as a sort of bonus.
In our efforts to make Windows look like anything BUT Windows, wouldn't it be nice to share screensavers, too? I for one am really fed up with dull photo-slideshows. (I didn't overlook a screensaver page on Wincustomize, did I?)
I know, the modern screens don't have to be saved at all: they seem to save themselves, but a original funny or just crazy screensaver is the topping of a good theme.
What do you guys out there think of this?

Most people already have a favortite ss or 2 or 5. However a ss section might go down if supported by the WD40 or WC staff. The ss would have to freebies thought as not to step on copy-rights.

Screensavers are executables, and we try to stay away from files that potentially might contain viruses.

Of course freebies, Old Crab, just like the other skins and themes we make for Object Desktop or Wincustomize. Only selfmade ss's of course.
Paxx, you definately got a point about the viruses: didn't think of that. But if only .scr-files are accepted instead of executables, would that be a threat,too?

Yes innerspace, SCRs are executables. It's just like an EXE with a different extension, sortof.

Screensavers are supplied with computers. Why would you want others unless you want to sit there for hours just watching them?

Like others, I wouldn't want to sit for hours staring at my screensaver (believe it or not: I have other things to do), but- computeraddict as I am- the machine is turned on almost all day long. If I'm not using it, it's nice to walk by and see something happening on the screen that is in balance with the graphical interface-theme (like Window Blinds or Desktop X).
For instance: if I'm using my DX-theme Young ones for my daughter I'd like to have a matching screensaver. So that will be defenitely be one of the first screensavers I'm gonna create. Maybe a comic little adventure of the family of Yoyo's who are already in the DX-theme.
Well, possibilities are endless and if I'm the only one among the WC or Stardock-community interested in making and sharing them, OK, but apprearently there are more people out there who at least like to have a nice screensaver: just read a new thread about the 5 favorite ss'ers.....

what stardock could do is come up with their own screen saver format... and have the executable part universal and already on your computer... downloaded through your component manager... and then... well their wouldn't be any worries... you would download images and a text file with script of how the screen saver will work... just an idea....
