Jafo, a question

Hey Jafo.
How r u?
I recieved ur mail rejecting my WP AlienXP because I used Motion Blur (I m not complaining, thank God the reason was other than moderated: by the way, what does moderated mean?)
I wanted to ask you a question.
What if I use focal blur to replicate actual human vision, i.e. objects not focussed on appear blurred? Will such a submission make it to the site?

Hi to you, too...

Firstly, 'moderation' means that something has not been accepted for 'various/varying reasons', simply intended to keep a reasonable curb on the size of the particular section that warrants it, namely Wallpapers.

The process generally entails a number of admins viewing and commenting on a work, unless, of course, it is startlingly good or startlingly bad, and we get ALL sorts, you name it...then it/they may be posted/rejected immediately...
Many, however sit and fester a while so that others get a chance to comment, and in the case of this wall of yours, a few downloaded it to 'look closely', but were put-off by the 'blanket' blurring of the subject.
I know why you wanted it like that, but the outcome was more like a badly taken photograph than an effect of movement.
This can be the danger of filter-use, where the filter is ignorant of your motives for its use.
I liked the wall, as a wall, and as an image, but thought that perhaps a better differentiation between focused objects and un-focused objects or parts thereof would have given greater depth and sense of motion to the piece.

Whatever you use to create the result matters not...any method or filter will do, provided its application and the applicator is in control of the process.

I modified one of Dangeruss's works...a 3D of a Ducatti, and created a graded series of motion-blurs in PSP, and the result was a quaint shot of a Duc where the fairing and front wheel were all in focus and static, and the bum of the bike appeared to be still rushing up to meet it.
Something 'similar' may work...

wombat...the saddest thing is that the 'greatest' bike builder is/was a Kiwi....ever seen the Britten?

Now, THAT's a bike....in its time, pioneering cutting-edge carbon-fibre load-bearing technology that was hand in hand with McLaren's development.....rims, swingarms, forks....seriously 'good stuff'...

Sure do, one of the best of the 'B.O.T' bikes.
Preceded (?) by a very nifty Harris framed Vincent I might add!
One of our crew(Gary Flood)competed on the Cosworth twin at around the same time.
But I still lust after the work of Massimo Tamburini and Pier Luigi Marconi.

Silly me missed the meeting at PI when the Britten was out here....but I grabbed some pics off the net, smoking bags and hangin' mono's [front and rear].
Cleaned up one other pic as a wallpaper...just so I can drool...

Your revised wall is up, although the 'echoed' image wasn't quite what I had in mind...I was thinking more of 'focus-pulling'...altering the 'depth of field' to a surreal level, almost.

But perhaps others will now comment on it as well...

I'll upload the Ducati 'wall' so you see what I was getting at, but it will have to be 'defaced' as it is an original by Russ Schwenkler [Dangeruss] and is therefore © to him and cannot be distributed as such without permission..

I'll put the link in here..

https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=8&SkinID=5982

It's in the walls section, but will be deleted 'shortly', as it is for 'demonstration' purposes only.

BTW, any aspiring 3D artists may like to take a peak at what a talent such as Russ can do....[he may fall off MTBs, but he can sure model]...

Good morning, Jafo!
Just one question if you don't mind. I've been trying to take your advice and upload much smaller zip files of my walls but the library is still down for maintenance. Do you have any idea when it will become available again for updates?
Thanks.

JM...that's odd...certainly 'new' works are being added, I just put one up, but I hadn't realized that the updates were on the fritz.
Another job for T-Man, I guess...[or perhaps he's already in there, dusting, or under the hood and changeing plug leads]...

Good grief...'hood'....I've been around these Yanks too long...

I'm glad then that I've brought it to your attention, it's been like this for several days.

JM...are you trying to amend the one I suggested could be smaller?

Yes, Slippery and also Aberration. I've made smaller zips of both.

The WinCustomize Library is temporary closed while undergoing maintenance. Please check back later.
This is what I get whenever I click on the update button.

OK...I'll chase up the 'powers that be' and get it all sorted.
It's 2.41 am Tuesday here in Oz, so I expect it's somewhere around work-time Monday for those in Yankeeland, So T-Man should be around somewhere....[probably frolicking in the snow or something]...

I think, however I had better tootle off to bed...the cat will want to be let out in about 4 hours...

thanx Jafe.
I didn't know what u had in mind, or i would have tried that.
But maybe its harder than I think it is...
All I did was to keep on pasting over and over again with a continous decrease in the transperency.
Hope u like it nevertheless.
Also, what do u think about the story, some conspiracy theory, eh?
Maybe u could teach me how you modified the Ducati, a step by step instruction list would go a long way in helping me..
Hope 2 hear from u soon
Ashu.

The effect on the Ducati was achieved via Paintshop Pro, first selecting most of the bike and a bit of background to the rear of it with the freehand cutout tool, then applying a small amount of motion blur in the direction of the rear of the bike. Then repeating the process with a selection starting a bit further along the bike and including the same amount of the rear and applying a larger motion blur, and repeating it till there's about 4 [I think it was] selections, each more heavily blurred than the previous.
The effect was to have the front ststic and in focus, but give the impression that the rear was still in the process of stopping.
As I said, a weird effect, but you never know what you can come up with if you don't try silly things...

I'm sure a similar result /method could be achieved in Photoshop, etc, but I prefer to concentrate on getting used to one proggy rather than fumble around in many...
