serveral questions

alright i'm new here.
five days ago i was still using the silver bar from windows XP

now here are my three (3) questions.
1) in litestep, how do i change the skin? i downloaded it but when i tryed another skin.. lets just say my computer was working but i didn't get a start bar or anything... had to do everything with ctrl-alt-del buttons

2) is there a GOOD free desktop manager/shell replacer for windows xp out there?
3) soemtimes in screenshots i see a desktop with (usually) at the button a bar with large icons on them, what program enables to do this?

1.If the theme is compliant with the OTS system, then you'll be able to use the LiteStep theme switcher, if you have it. If the theme was built by someone who doesn't use the theme switcher, when you open the theme switcher, it creates a theme file for the theme automatcially , but there seems to be a bug with this in that it lists the step.rc file as 'sdtep.rc'. I think this might be the cause of the problem you're having. Simply go to the folder of your theme, open the .thm file, and edit it to fix the error.

3.It's just a quicklaunch toolbar, which is broken off from the Windows taskbar, docked at a different screen edge, and then the icons are set to large, and the button text is switched on.

Hippy...you're a bit 'off' with '2'.
For a good Shell Manager/switcher [as opposed to a theme switcher in LiteSTEP], use ShellON.
It handles registry settings in NT/XP/2K, and saves even messing with system.ini in 9x...

As for changing themes, 'IF' they are OTS-compliant ones, then there's not very much involved with it at all. However, for many years, LS themes have NOT been set up this way, but can differ quite dramatically, being totally incompatible without 'experienced' coding conversion.
If you are in OTS themes, LSCP.exe is a quite functional method of theme switching, being the method I've used since switching to OTS, without any troubles at all...
