Force Resolution

Hi, just want to ask if there is a way to force screen resolutions in win98, because I have to OS Win98SE and WinXP. I only have a 14 Inches Monitor, in XP I can force my monitor to display up to 1280x768 pixels by unchecking the HIDE MODES THAT THIS MONITOR CANNOT DISPLAY on the monitor tab in advanced. But in 98 there is no option like that. Is there a way to force the resolution in 98? Please post your replies.. THANKS

Depends on yourr Graphic card for one, try downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer.
Unchecking the 'hide modes' is not a great idea.

I have NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX400 card and the latest drivers, I know my monitor supports that resolution but I don't have the right drivers that's why I need a program or other ways so that I can use that resolution...

The fact that your video card supports that resolution does not necessarily mean that the monitor can. Forcing a resolution that the monitor cannot support can damage it.

No joke. My eyes are bad enough that I won't run more that 1024x768 on a 17in monitor.

1024x768 on a 17"...before that it was 800x600 on a 15"

I once had 1600x1200 on a 14"....it 'worked' but I looked a dork with my magnifying glass...
Strangely, the monitor 'handled' it without spitting a dummy.....then, again, it WAS the one that died mysteriously without warning about 2 years later....

Can't imagine why anyone would want such a ridiculous resolution on a 14". The refresh rate would be unbearably low as well as burning out the monitor double quick. A 14" should be 640x480, or 800x600 if it's a high quality one and you can put up with the lower refresh rate.

My rule of thumb for monitors and resolutions:

14" = 640x480 or 800x600
15" = 800x600 or 1024x768
17" = 1224x768 or 1280x1024

The craziest thing I've seen was one person who has 1600x1280 on a 14" monitor. You had to go on a pixel hunt just to find the start button Though on a 17" monitor that resolution is comfortable

For my 21" I prefer 1280x1024. Text on screen is the same size as text on paper and the 85hz refresh rate is less wearing on the eyes

Hmm..my monitor supports up to 1280x768 pixels but now I only use 1152x864 pixels on XP but I cannot use that resolution in 98, Is there a way to force that resolution in 98? Because I really need it... thanks again

To force resolution on 98 try changing your monitor type to Generic 17" this may allow you the option higher resolutions unless your monitor is plug N pray.

Word of warning....if you do force your monitor to run an unsupported resolution/refresh rate....you may just find yourself NEEDING to buy another monitor.

They can, and DO blow...
