Dashboard Questions

The color of the bottom bar is set by the theme file ( .tsk file) selected thru the "Today Settings" menu. To show for selection, the .tsk file must be in the My Documents folder on your handheld, not in the skins directory or subfolder. Dashboard skins set up for Pelmar Wisbar can be made to automatically load the theme file if you have dashboard 1.5 or newer. ( The skin's .dsh file can have an entry like "TodayFile = IPAQ_Whistler.tsk"). This .tsk file also contains the skin of your Start menu when you activate it. I just select them manually thru the Today Settings menu.
Not sure what the contacts problem would be. I know that on some versions of handheld Windows before PPC 2002 the MyDash ( or Contacts) button isn't implemented to show the contacts.

If you don't have Dash 1.5, it's well worth the few bucks to get it from SnoopSoft. Good Luck.

Thanks. I do have Dash 1.5 and it's great and well worth the money. However, I'm using Windows CE 3.0 on my Cassiopeia E-125. Is that the reason?

The "my dash" button only shows what you configure it to show, and this depends on what dashboard and/or Today screen plugins you have installed. For examle, my "my dash" screen shows Inosoft's Cash Organizer today screen plugin. Many programs come with today screen plugins, which is why Dashboard has opened it to allow today screen plugins. I know which dashboard plugins you're talking about. They used to be bundled with Dashboard, but no more it seems. They're made by Whitaker-moore and I'm sure there's some kind of link either at Handango, or maybe Dashboard's website.

Oh, as for the bottom bar, yeah, it's skin-dependent.. but there are some tweak programs for PPC that allow you to set this color yourself. Again, go search Handango.

I can't remember off-hand which skins here have a bottom bar color and which don't, but I do believe Juni's Time Machine skin has a set bar color. I'm sure there are others that do too.

Tell Juni I came across some of his stuff over at handango that I must have missed here or something? (media player skins) great stuff!!!

Doreen: The media player skins can also be found at Devart I believe. He tried to post them here, but alas, WC doesn't except ppc media player skins. The only reason I can think that he hasn't made more of those (other than skinner's block), is that he's mostly using the withMp3player more these days.

He also posts at handango for the nonbelievers, and to show people what they can get for free. Have you seen the ones you have to buy?

Being in ppc world makes me like my mac more. I just had a 3 hour arguement with Activesync. Activesync won (always does), and I ended in a hard reset. It's like the Loox isn't compatible with Activesync.

If only Fujitsu-Seimens had chosen the syncml standard, I'd be syncing via BT to my mac.

But I'm being cranky. These problems will be fixed (hopefully), and the Loox, especially with the new keyboard I got today, is tres cool. Definately missed those features with the Clie. So what if it doesn't sync to mac? File transfers over BT work fine.

hmm me did not think to look at DA for more... I was so excited that I stumbled across his other skins by accident at handango cuz I've been using his Control Pad skin ever since I got that one (have not seen any other media skins for ppc at all)

Activesync has a 3.6 version out now, but me has not upgraded yet

Maybe you should wait.. these woes started when we installed Active sync 3.6

But then again, Juni's pc is so bogged down with previous syncing gook from other pdas that me thinks it's time for to wipe the slate clean. Understandably, he's not to excited about that, but I think he secretly agrees with me.

Thanks plainsong and doreen for the info. One of my managers has a cassiopeia with the Win version just prior to 2002, and we still can't get his MyDash to do anything. Oh well.

Juni is thinking of defecting from Dashboard. His reasoning is that it's not been updated in ages, and with enough Today screen plugins, you get the same functionality.

Now his skins were a big reason for me jumping to PPC, so if he uninstalls dashboard, it's to the couch with him! >

hehe plainsong! yeah I happen to agree w/ you there especially now w/ the new animated today screen program, you can have your screen animated "and" have your plugins all right there in your face...

I have the "Find" plugin on my today screen so when I need a contact I don't have to search for hours I just type in the firt letter and they pop up right on my today screen, & I set all my alarms from a today screen plugin as well too.

I don't use Dashboard anymore cuz I'm way too stuck on my regular Today screen, it has everything right there and does not weigh a ton on device...

when I seen the developers releasing code for the today screen plugin's to be developed I said to myself oh boy there goes a few Dashboard users...

Hmm, the Today screen sounds like it's improved since I last left PPC. So you have to choose form or function. Today screen is hardly ugly, especially with themes, but dashboard is so pretty and has nice buttons when skinned right!

I wonder if the Snoopsoft people are just riding the wave, or if they're really working on improving Dashboard.

And if he leaves dashboard, then what? It was his favorite hobby... it's very relaxing for him. Ya know how some women sew for relaxation.. well that's Juni with skinning. Dashboard was his favorite because small interfaces are appealing to him. That and it's not as sweeping as making a Windows suite of skins.

He'll have all that spare time.. I dunno.. we're supposedly supposed to take Pixel to a puppy show in November (if I heard the breeder right). Maybe he'll start training her.

No, in conclusion, Juni needs his dashboard skinning. We just need more "My dash" functionality from Snoopsoft!

I'm bad at writing to developers, what I would like to see in dash is:

- cleartype support (you can't make dark skins - it looks too ugly without it).

- Mydash should be able to display all of the today plugins (it actually could be _all_ of the normal today screen).

I am going to uninstall dash for now, perhaps start making today theme paks for free to p*ss off the people charging for them over at handango.

I'm still not sure which bar app I should use tho, I'd like one that shows the notification icons normally.

Juni send me your wishlist for Dashboard for him, I will send it over to him if you want? I've spoken to him not too long ago when I needed the lastest build cuz I was curious how far DB had gotten since I last used it... I actually had the opportunity to interview him a while back and he is very humble and kind,
He is a dev that would listen to you and your wants/needs and most likely incorp into the next build of DB.
