How can I speed up WindowBlinds?

While I absolutely love WindowBlinds, it dramatically slows my computer. When I have WB unloaded my computer reacts 2-3 times faster then when I have WB loaded.

I loathe the regular gray bars etc. of the default windows interface, but I can't afford to wait forever for windows to open and close or for menues to take a half minute or more to open.

What are some ways to speed up WB?

Make sure you have the latest video drivers. Use fast skins. Non-animated, UIS1 square skins with tiled borders tend to be the fastest. If something like Blackcomb is too slow for you then you're unlikely to find any fast enough for you, but if not, keep looking.

Oh, and check out the Performance section in WindowBlinds Advanced Configuration/Settings. Probably won't help much but you could try tweaking a few things there.

Ok, question 1, what OS are you running, and 2 what does your system look like (and I don't mean a gray box about this tall ) PII, PIII, PIV, 64mb, 128mb, 512mb RAM? Sounds like 98 or 2000 since your talking about grey stuff. So I'm going to take a leap of faith here. 98 is a wonderfull OS if you like to tweak, first I would suggest going to http://www.outertech.com and downloading cachman which will help you tweak the heck out of your system. Make shure you find the "Conservativeswapfileusage" switch and check it. If you play with it enough you and get a huge improvement. Then check your "Startup" folder to see what is loading with Windows, then if your realy feeling froggy go find sysinfo and then tools and check to see what is loading at startup that you can't normaly see. Good Luck!!!

ps: The above works with ME also

Well, actually I'm running WinXP. I referred to the gray bars because thats what I get after I unload WB (though I'm not too fond of the Luna theme either).

I'm running on a Celeron 700 (don't laugh) w/256mb ram and a 32mb nVidia card.

I've already tweaked the hell out of my system using TweakXP. As for startup, only the stuff I use constantly every session (WB, winfx, mozilla, trillian, and winamp) start up automatically. BTW, no, the computer doesn't get faster unless I unload WB, it doesn't seem to matter whether or not the rest is running.

Are you running an AntiVirus program, and if so is it set to scan every file. Windowblinds will run to a crawl if every file is getting scanned everytime. I've been running WB for ever, and as a matter of fact I just rebuilt my sons system (PII266, 256, 16Mb Video) and WB is smoking on it. If so set your antivir to "Smart" or "Selective" or what it is called on your system. Other than that try your videodrivers but even with what your saying I don't think that is it.

I updated my video drivers last month to the latest nVidia offerings which did increase performance a slight bit.

My anti-virus program only scans network traffic. (I'm using norton 2002)

Hmmm, I just noticed that when I unload WB & then load it again my system runs much faster. Well, that's a temporary solution, but it's good enough for now.

Are you using nView desktop enhancements? There can be major problems with that enabled.

Heck no, I turned those off the very day I bought the card.

'I've already tweaked the hell out of my system using TweakXP' Hmm, please don't get me wrong, maybe that is a reason ? I found and read here and there that some settings in Tweakers are not good for every prog. Just a quick idea.

What I finally ended up doing was unloading and reloading WB a half dozen times. After I did that I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Go figure.

That's strange...
