Mozilla 1.1 & Pop-Ups

Doesn't Mozilla 1.1 have the ability to block pop-ups? I thought someone here mentioned that before, but I cannot find that setting anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

Try Preferences / Advanced / Scripts & Plugins
Make sure "Open Unrequested Windows" is not checked.

First impressions - I don't like Mozilla. It is not as fast as IE and the other features don't make up for that.

"It is not as fast as IE" is a completely subjective remark, you should really pose it that way. On my system mozilla is blindingly fast, easily as fast as IE, and imho, faster. Add to that the pop-up killer, mouse gestures, and the multitude of other perks...

To each his own. I just get grumpy when people make concrete statements based on subjective experience.

Well, unless one uses an alternative shell, IE is already opened. So when you want to open an IE windows, it opens in a Flash. Unlike Mozilla or Netscape, even with the little icon thingy in the systray.
Dunno. I find IE much faster. I tried every version of Netscape and Mozilla, and although I really like Netscape 7, I just have that overall feeling that it's slower. I'll have to bechmark, just to be sure it's not my imagination.

I should've said "My impressions" instead of "First impressions" I guess.

It's not like I am trying to sell MS IE or anything. I like to try different software and make the decision on which to use based on my experience.

On my system, Mozilla is not even near "blindingly fast". I have also tried other browsers but none work better for me than IE.

ah... I begin to see the problem. I haven't used explorer as my main shell in like ~3 years. Not for more than a month anyway. When I bulldoze I might get lazy for a week before I pick a shell, but explorer is not a permanent option.

Also, initial load-time is not really a consideration to me, anyway, unless it is an outrageously long time, like AOLscape 6. When I think about long load times, I think Photoshop or most of the games I play... something in the 10-30 second range or more (ugh, Everquest...). On a fresh boot I didn't get past a 3 count before Mozilla was loaded, so I'm satisfied. New browser windows and tabs spawn instantly.

So I guess if you are concerned with the extra ~1.5 - 2.0 seconds it takes mozilla to start the first time, IE is faster. As far as page rendering, new browser windows and tabs, and the meaty bits of browsing, I see no difference. As I said though, to each his own.

Well, I've been using Mozilla since last winter (now using 1.1) and it is noticably faster than IE. Heck, it even starts faster.

I don't know about application times, but it seems that Gecko (the Mozilla browser control) renders faster (or at least in a more sensible manner) than IE's browser control.

If you are looking for a bit of a speed improvement with Mozilla try this:

Go to the Preferences. (Edit/Preferences)
Expand the Advanced menu.
Select HTTP Networking.
Fill in the check boxes to Enable Pipelining.
Click OK.

You should see some improvement in page load time.

You can get some strange behaviour with Mozila 1.0/1.1
Upgrade to 1.2a if possible, this seems to be more stable than the offical 1.x releases.
