Can I disable Fences temporarily?

...might help me troubleshoot pesky problems

Is there any way to disable Fences temporarily?

I have various problems with Fences that I'd like to troubleshoot, rather than give up on the product.

Fences works beautifully for me on Windows XP, but is troublesome on my Windows 7 computers.

For instance, when booting my laptop, Explorer.exe often doesn't start properly, often requiring multiple reboots. If I can isolate this problem to Fences (or not), it might help me solve the problem.

Also, new desktop icons often appear staggered within random fences, rather than appearing outside my fences.

Right click the screen, choose Configure Fences, scroll to bottom, uncheck Enable Fences.

That's where I looked; and I thought I remembered seeing that option.

But it doesn't appear now, either in XP or 7!

I'm using Fences V2.11 with Windows 7 and it is showing.  Be sure you are scrolling all the way to the bottom.  The option also shows when you click on Quick Hide.

In Control Panel, go to: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Fences

In category mode.

If you run Control Panel in large icon mode, as I do, you won't see fences there.

I've scrolled to the end and still didn't see it.

In Windows 7, I tried looking in "Appearance and Personalization" but Fences wasn't listed. That machine was still running v. 1, so I upgraded to 2.0 there. Now I see the "Enable Fences" option, and can also get to it through the Control Panel!

So now I'll try reinstalling 2.0 on my other computers and see if the "enable" option reappears.

Well silly us, we should have asked what version of Fences you were running.

I uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled 2.0 on my office computer. NOW I have the v. 2.0 configuration panel, including the "enable" button, instead of what must have been a remnant of the 1.0 installation

Thanks for encouraging me not to give up!

Now that that's solved, I'll start a new thread on my technical problems...
