Whiners, Trolls, Morons....

I have been noticing of late that there has been quite a bit of name calling going on these days. It seems that anytime someone comes along and has a negative comment towards WinCustomize or someone else or who may have ripped a skin, a bandwagon of people tend to jump all over that person and tend to start calling them whiners, trolls, morons, etc, etc etc.

I personally find this behavior very rude and offensive and am getting very sick of it. So I ask all of you to please take more time when responding to such a post and really consider what you are saying. Its ok for people to have a different opinion and express it. Its ok to debate the issues and to try and explain your point of view. But its really not ok to start name calling.

Luckily there hasn't been any real flame wars that have resulted from this. But it doesn't take much. Just try to think about how you would feel if someone called you the name that you are about to call them just because you do not agree with their point of view.

Just excerise a bit more control when responding and do unto others as you wish them to do to you.

Heh, T-man, finally some wisdom. Debate is good, discussion is bad. Discus means to cut. In a discussion you end up with hurting someone because you want to force your opinion on someone. I am always for debate. Unfortunately many people do not understand the difference.

Umm, it´s the other way around is it not? Debate is where two sides try to win the crowd by making the other side look like fools, while discussion is where people try to share ideas and be constructive.

Ah well, dead horse flogged/cow dragged out of the didge. Carry on, nothing to see here.

The 'do unto others' reference doesn't work with me, because I am much happier being told when I am being a whiner, troll, or moron... Neither am I so thin-skinned that a couple of words sitting on the hard drive of a server somewhere are going to 'hurt' me. The problem with tea-room tact is that some people simply do no hear it, or find it very easy to overlook. Overlooking an insult is something that a whiner, troll, or moron cannot do, and that is usually when you get line-by-line responses to your arguments, and real discussion begins.

The only thread that I have considered myself to have gotten a little uppity on lately was that goofy marathon discussion with Jark about stealing images, and that got resolved sufficiently, though silently.

Being who he is, though, one cannot take T-Man's post as a simple suggestion. It was posed in the form of a command, and I'll take it that way.

Discussion or debate... I have to look that one up.

I am always for a debate (or discussion depending on which one is nicer) I understoood the frustrations that other felt when a whiner, moron, infidel... whatever said something... well for the lack of a better word stupid.

But usually I think making sence actually deters more whiners then anything else. Knowledge is power!!!

Those morons.. I mean people better reconize.

Yeah, but whiners seem to lack common sense. That's why they're whining in the first place.

I can't control their (whiners,trolls, etc.) posts.

I can, however, control my own. I will ignore the whiners and deny the trolls the response they crave. I will onle reply "You said something silly!" when needed.

And if they really need to feel the weight of sarcastic invective-- I will tell bakerstreet!

( Or if they misspellef a word- Jafo!)

The fact that you mispelled mispelled has a certain irony to it. Sort of a "meta-mispelling".

yeah, like the time I misspelled Jafoian.

btw Chris.......mispelled = misspelled

can´t really say I would be angry if someone said "you troll!" to me...but maby it´s just me who´se being cold-hearted, cause I would gladly say something worse back haha

I've found that violence is usually the best solution to any problem...

I go with the violence idea....works for me...and baker's a whining, troll or moron....but one of the 'good' ones...

Larry...when 'misspell' is misspelled or misspelt it's kinda sad...

Solution would be to have a 'good' troll beat you into submission and get it 'right'...

I don't think that we can really dictate a response plan that will work per se, because every troll, moron, or idiot who posts is a distinct individual. Some will respond well to a calm, composed reply, and some just assume that you're a PC ninny. I do think sometimes, that watching your rude posting slide down and off the MB without a single response is definitely a teaching technique.

or - have one person respond " If this is meant to be a serious posting with a question or comment, please rephrase".

Usually what you say dictates the kind of response you receive. The problem lies with the fact that most of the posts we've had recently (and there does seem to be a lot of them), consist of someone stating 'blah blah this sux blah blah' and then disappear without trace. Those sort of people shouldn't expect any kind of respect.

If someone doesn't like something and wants a discussion, they should go ahead and say it. No one will be offended by a different opinion. They will receive a civilized and polite respose. We've seen this with a couple of well known people stating they aren't happy and want to leave etc. No one called them names, but instead offered encouragement to stay and talk things through. That is how to do it.

But to simply post something in a fit of anger which is likely to upset or offend a large number of people is unacceptable. Assuming you're not intending introducing moderation for the message board which would prevent these inflammatory posts from being made in the first place, then free speech must be allowed to take its course. If you dish it out, you have to take it. Strange how no one seems to care about the "whiner, troll or moron..." causing offence to the majority with their ill mannered behaviour.

It is always wiser to deal with cause rather than effect. Treat the disease not the symptom and the body will remain healthy. Unfortunately at the moment this site is in need of a few asprin;)

It's always interesting to see how those that whine seem to be one post wonders (generally speaking).

Their belly is full, but their ravenous appetite for freebies unsated, so they whip through the message board on the way out to take a little parting shot at us. Duck and wave g'bye.
