got any questions yet?

if not, here's a pre-emptive strike on some you may rapidly come up with...

downloads are free, until you reach 100 megs. then you can no longer download, unless you do one of a few easy things:

1) be a proactive person on the message boards and part of the community and provide cponstructive criticism/praise (comments) on others' works

2) create at least (1) skin for ANYTHING, no matter how badly YOU think it is, and upload it here

or 3) purchase something that stardock sells or pay the subscription for a membership

*** note - the payment is only ONE of the options, and isn't even the easiest or most productive! the first two are! ***

Also, everyone here is weird...just accept it and we won't have to break out the straight jacket for you! (besides, I think Crae is wearing it right now...)

Jafo spellchecks everything, whether you like it or not...

There is something called a RIP which is a big no-no at sites like this. A rip is where one person has created something...a skin, a wallpaper, whatever...and another person comes along and, say, just adds something to the piece (sometimes they don't bother changing/adding ANYTHING) and then they upload it and claim it as their own. This practice is not allowed. If you want to do something like this, you officially must contact the original creator of the piece and ask their permission. Then you anotate their comments with your work, and all is peachy.

Sometimes the site seems to load slow...it happens. there are a TON of people here at any given time/day, and the toll on the servers and bandwidth is a given. Just be patient! Also, after you make a post, don't hit the SUBMIT button more than once. Every click is sent to the servers to post, even if it doesn't refresh the page fast enough for you to see it realtime.

A final note...please try not to put more than a few smileys on your posts, as they take a while to render and slow the page loading.

oh...almost forgot...try not to type with your caps on, as it infers you are yelling.

again, welcome!

what the heck..might as well cover ALL the bases...

ok, if you are the type of person who regularly flushes your cookies, it will remove your logon as well as the icons indicating which posts you have read, and which have been responded to since you read them last...

um...try not to use profanity, as we have people's families that sometimes stroll through here to see their work, or even teenagers who are getting into this "skinning thing"...

the time/date stamp for the posts is for East Coast (USA) time zone, I think, but our clientel here are international.

watch the Texas jokes...we have a bunch of them weirdos in here too...

If you post a new thread with "help" anywhere in the title, and NO OTHER SUBSTANCE to it, you'll probably be tarred and feathered. Always try to title a post in a helpful way, an dif nobody responds, it usually means either the people with your answers are in a different time zone and are sleeping right now, or no one has an actual suggestion/answer for you.

Do NOT create the same thread more than once...you WILL be tarred and feathered if you do...(then the Texans will BBQ your butt...they're always looking for an excuse to BBQ...)

let's see...waht else have I learned since joining here?

most of us can't spell...

Howdy, Blaylok.

Um, I think Kinrik just about covered everything...in fact, perhaps that should be copied and turned into a messageboard FAQ or something.

Anyway, don't let the natives scare ya.

You did a swell job kinrik. Who would be the right person to contact to implement your welcome to a newbie FAQ?

Addendum to kinrik's posts........

create at least (1) skin for ANYTHING, no matter how badly YOU think it is, and upload it here

It has been stated by an admin, that submitting skins here, doesn't automatically get you past the 100meg cap.

ok, if you are the type of person who regularly flushes your cookies, it will remove your logon as well as the icons indicating which posts you have read, and which have been responded to since you read them last...

The messageboard is no longer handled with cookies

watch the Texas jokes...we have a bunch of them weirdos in here too...

We Texans aren't weird..........kinrik is!

then the Texans will BBQ your butt...they're always looking for an excuse to BBQ...

We don't need an excuse to BBQ!

Yes, I was going to make those corrections to Kinrik' posts, but Koa did it for me.
Just one more I spotted:
The time/date stamp for the posts is for East Coast (USA) time zone, I think, but our clientèle here are international.
Actually, to be more exact, the time stamp for the posts is for the GMT -5 time zone, which indeed includes the east coast of the US, but also parts of Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Venezuela (I probably forgot a couple too). Anyway, the time zone includes any city that is located in that time strip going from the North Pole to the South Pole.

I stand corrected!

...Texans are weird...they are just in denial, as well...
apparently it has been a while since I was last coherent around here

yeah, I recall reading something about now the database tracks your logon instead of cookies, so that's fixed...

...and I could have sworn I read somewhere that if you uploaded a skin it would get you past the cap, but I guess I am wrong there too.

Not a big deal as long as you understand my posts were wrong and if those issues do come up for you, Blaylok, the corrections are listed here. If I see you post an issue where you are quoting me and it is an incorrection on my part, I'll jump in and make sure they know not to jump on you for it. Sorry if I didn't already catch any in time...

Hopefully you are off somewhere enjoying the site...stuck in the quicksand of wallpapers or something!

actually, nearly everyone here is weird, with the probable exception of the residents of the message board chatroom thread

oh yes, and can we have our straight jacket back at some point please?

/me supports the vote to turn Kinrik's post into the official FAQ

for it was an impressive post
