Problem with Sysmetrix

Whenever my screensaver comes on, the display goes away and the shortcut keys do not bring it back. I have to end it in the task manager and restart the program. Is anyone else having this problem?

Wow, no I don't have that problem. Try using a different screen saver.

Also give a re-install a shot too. And then, try a diferent theme if all else fails.

I'll try reinstalling it, and a different theme, but I like my screen saver more than sysmetrix, so if one of ems gotta go.....

Modern monitors don't really 'need' screensavers.....if push came to shove in your particular problem, I'd be keeping SysMetrix, instead...

Hey Orange Crush - what screen saver is it? Also, does the problem go away with one of the "standard" windows screen savers? I'll bet it's an easy fix if I get enough info...

Orange Crush...just in case you weren't aware....Xymantix is SysMetrix's creator...it's not often you get to deal direct with the programmer for problem-solving/bug-squashing...

BTW, Nick....how about PNG support?....some of the multi-image graphics can get rather large as BMPs...

I know, I know.... A while back I did a proof of concept with .pngs so you could completely skin the clock's hands - any size, shape, variable transparancy, drop shadows, etc. It was kind of CPU intensive though . I think first on the list for the next rev is drive support up to Z - seems like lots of people have several drives.

Xymantix,
I thought I would repost these two comments here since you are paying attention to this thread. I still am experiencing intermittent problems with the prog. crashing at startup. Any thoughts?

For some reason, the program crashes at startup if I place a shortcut to it in my startup folder (there are multiple users on this computer so I did not want to enable the 'run on startup' option. The workaround that I found is to edit the registry so that it starts under HKEY Current User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. I am posting this in case anybody experiences a similar problem.

Actually, the prog still crashes intermittently at startup.

Does it work correctly when it's started normally? What happens if you go into the directory that it's installed in and double-click on the .exe? Also, what OS are you on? Finally, what kind of error messages are you getting? I'm assuming that it's not just disappearing...

Works correctly if started normally after I have logged on and other autostart progs have loaded (norton av, messenger, windowblinds). I am using XP - SP1. I will log off completely and let you know what error message I get.

Logged off twice just then with no problem. Restarted computer and logged on and received the following message "Sysmetrix has encountered a problem and needs to close." Further delving into the message and the error detail is :

App Name: sysmetrix Mod Name: msvbvm60.dll
Mod Version: 6.0.92.37
Offset: 000da568

Is any of this helpful?

It doesn't tell me too much, except that the MicroSoft VB runtime module had a problem. It could be that you're on an older version, it could be specific to your OS, or perhaps it even could be a timing/dependancy issue (such as your core network components haven't finished loading and SysMetrix starts up "too early").

So... What OS are you on, and what's the version of the msvbvm60.dll?

wow.... makes you wonder how any program can work on anything when it can incounter such problems as this. I had one program do something to my computer once, and find out later on that my computer was missing something that the program needed to use. The funny thing was that another program was suppossed to be using that same piece of information but it worked anyway.

I still think computers are magical devises of olden days and with a whip of a wand and a nudge of a bat it wil work (or break)

Oh I should have asked this earlier, what screen saver are you using? Is it one you installed or one that came with the system. And what version of SysMetrix are you running?
