Still in beta and no way to uninstall other than a system restore. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole for now. :/

I've been running it for a week for audio, video, you name it. Works like a charm. System restore ain't no big deal as long as you haven't installed alot of apps from when you install WMP9 and the day you decide WMP9 sucks. In the past year I've done a system restore 3 times with no adverse effects.

But out of principle, what kind of software doesn't allow you to uninstall it? Totally typically Microsoftish. Ridiculous.

WMP gets scarier and scarier with each release I think I'll pass.

You can't uninstall WMP8...Can you ?

Nothing scares me.

MS believes in mandatory optional components. You don't have to use WMP and IE, but they are not gonna make it easy for you not to have the constant option...

This, imho, only gets nasty when you play the EULA tricks that MS plays from time to time. They give you an app that has a security hole, make it next to impossible to uninstall it, and then give you the *option* of installing a security fix *if* you agree to a EULA that pretty much gives them the right to be as intrusive as they want.

Hmm, if you don't like Microsoft, switch to Mac, Linux or ... It seems to me everyone complains or makes comments about Microsoft but yet probably 99% of you use their products. What's up with that?? If you don't like it, you do have an alternative.

jarget: no we don't. I couldn't be sitting here skinning apps to upload here if I was using a mac or Linux. Photoshop 7 is currently an impossibility on Linux, I can't abandon that 650 dollars without a lot of thought. I play a lot of games too, so Linux is pretty much dead at birth.

MS owns a big hunk of Apple, so I'm not sure how much difference that will be in the end. I build my own computers, and with Macs that isn't really an option. I used another designers powermac a few months back and hated every minute of it.

Granted, each of the alternative OSs can be skinned, but this is a community of windows skinners. At this point the intrusions aren't enough to make me want to find new digs online, use new design software, skin new apps, etc. If it gets much worse, I might easily do so.

jarget, WMP 8 came with XP. It works fine, so I will never take the chance to install a useless upgrade that can't be uninstalled if what I have works.
Another beef I have with Microsoft: you can't have different versions of their software at the same time. I can't test the sites I design on IE 5 because I have IE 6. I can't test WMP skins I make on WMP 7 because I have WMP 8. Etc.
No, I don't like Microsoft, but I like some of their software. I like Windows XP. But I don't like the corporate mentality. Some day, my dislike of the company will overweihgt my liking of their software, and the day Linux will be able to run Windows software with 100% compatibility, I will most likely abandon MS software forever.

Oh, and BTW, I dislike Apple, the company, as much as I dislike Microsoft. :/
