?????

What is your first language? Maybe Jafo can help.

I am not sure if there is a plug in to have different work spaces on a computer. I think there is a program that helps you to divide your harddrive to different operating systems, but I am not sure what it is.

Are you asking for virtual desktops?

Linux does it by default.

I do not know if windows can do this. Windows normally has one desktop, and no others.

Products are sold that allow you to have multiple instances of desktops on a wiondows system, but I'll have to go dig to find links to their sites...

desktop=workspace in my above writings, in case I am confusing you (sorry).

I believe software like litestep, desktopX, etc. allow you to do this...I think...

and to divide your harddrive for different operating systems might require repartitioning them, unless you get something snazzy like SuSE linux or Mandrake Linux, which make room for themselves on available free space already partitioned on an ntfs partition of a windows box...

would be interesting for what program you want that plug-in.

for LiteStep you would have a huge selection: ckvwm, rabidvwm, bangvwm, ....

BbWin32, BlueBox or HoverDesk have a built-in VWM.

if you are using DesktopX or ObjectBar, Frogboy told me about bandvwm.

if you do not use any of these programs and are totally irritated what i am talking about, then have a look here: http://www.shelltoys.com/windows_xp.html CoolDesk works under Windows 2000 or XP, has 2 - 9 virtual desktops, multi-language, different wallpapers for different desktops, makes your icon text background transparent, supports skins and best of all: it´s free unlike most of the software you´ll find here.

btw: your English is not bad at all, i immediately understood what you wanted.

hey, sorry, i lost track of the threads i have been responding to lately...did this get fixed?

are you still looking for a solution?

ok, I have no idea what a virtual desktop is. I keep hearing it and I bet it is simple and I have been using it often.

So what is it? I have Win2000 Pro.

joetheblow: this is the vwm you can get from StarDock: https://www.stardock.com/products/controlcenter/bandvwm.html

in the Windows world the rabidvwm module for LiteStep is probably the most flexible and feature rich vwm. still nothing can beat the Enlightenment pager.

VWM's have been a major plus for LiteSTEP use since its inception, but there are a few stand-alone proggies which do the same thing without changing shells as wall...

one example for a standalone VWM is CoolDesk i mentioned above. http://www.shelltoys.com/windows_xp.html

nice eyecandy (taking snapshots of your desk), skinnable, but not too many features is DVWM by Nivenh. http://www.lokai.net/software.html

just read on the front page that CoolDesk has been updated recently. seems to be shareware now :/

you can also get a vwm for free from Microsoft if you are using WindowsXP http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

My fave is still... umm... oh shit... what's it called, ah yes, VirtuaWin: http://w1.457.telia.com/~u45706979/

Okay, so you can tell that I really don't use these things a lot. More like 'never'.

ok, maye I am really dense, but it would seem all a virtual desktop does is track placement of items on your desktop in different areas. Is that all it is? I think that is cool. If that is what it is. If it is not then what is it?

Is Winstlyes a virtual desktop? it changes skins and other crap...

And litestep, is that free? do I have to do allot of research in order to make it work?

joetheblow: if you followed the provided links and still don´t get what it is, the only advice i can give you is to try one. if you are constanly multi-tasking, virtual desktops are a great way to keep your work more organised.

and no: Winstyles is by no means a virtual desktop.

LiteStep is free, free as in beer (it will cost you no money), free as in speech (Open Source). and yes LiteStep is more demanding than other software, you will need to read the manuals.

A virtual desktop is just that, a desktop. But instead of one, you now have lots of them, which saves you from searching through stacks of windows or minimising and stuff.
