What's up next for Microsoft?

Is a team in place developing on a new OS for the Desktop?

Another month has passed and I thought I would look at what the installed OSs on desktops for June looked like.  You can check it out at this link, http://marketshare.hitslink.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0&qptimeframe=M 

I'm not by any means someone who knows how the market trends work or someone with lots of IT background.  I would of thought that by now Windows 8 would be showing a higher market share.  I don't remember the release date but will all of the reviews and betas that folks had a chance to look at it must be coming up on two years.

I've not intalled, used or looked at it other then what has shown up here in the forums.

I'm not looking for the pros or cons of Win 8, rather your thoughts on why the consumers who use desktops appeared to have not generally accepted it. 

I would also point out that I didn't look at what the numbers were based upon, whether new computer buys or upgrades to systems, etc.

Apparently, they're going to start voiding warranties if they don't approve of what applications you have installed....lol.

It's funny that anyone even thinks about it...you know as soon as a "new" OS comes out...the last one will be trashed and the next one will be the greatest thing since sliced bread...security holes and all..sad really.

Wonder what Windows 9 will look like. Microsoft should learn from thier mistakes and get rid of the Metro UI and go back to the traditional start menu. Or at least offer the traditional start menu as an option at install.

MS is consistent in one respect...their odd number OS's seem to be the good ones. Win 7 for one. Prior to that was Vista...Win 6 if you like...XP would be five. Ergo...nine should be a blast!

It's almost funny that the Market Share of Vista is about the same as the 2 most recent releases of Mac OS X combined.

Windows 8 was written hurriedly for tablets on top of a Windows 7 infrastructure.  Microsoft should have kept Win8 on Tablets and let Windows 7 expand further into the marketplace putting the nail in XP's coffin.

I think consumers are more interested in software than the OS. If it works, why upgrade ...

I still use XP on a daily basis, and only got to use 7 when DeVry finally upgraded, so I am not at all surprised XP is still around and will be for sometime, though I do plan on getting a 7 computer at some point.
