Well choose the non XP skins. If they are XP it will say XP, and if they are not they will say nothing.

I have been running WB constantly since version 1.3 on NT,2000 and XP and it works excellent...

Why don't you go to news.stardock.com in your news reader and post your problems with wb there. Stardock developers go through the news groups, and can help with your specific problems..

WindowBlinds is a fabulous program. I have been using it for approx. 2yrs now without any problems. Well there were a few alpha builds that were buggy in the 2.x days. I could never imagine using a computer again without WB installed. If you read the front page you will find out that WB is so good Systemax is going to pre-install it on new computers.

Now that you know how good it is, there can be issues. For the record I don't think the shareware versions are a good representation of the full registered version. It is disabled in some ways and I don't think it performs as well as the full version. Windows ME can also be a problem on it's own. It is not the best OS Microsoft has put out. ME suffers from the same problmes that plagued 98 and 95, especially in handling resources. In addition if you are running a lot of apps at start up memory can fade quick! You have to be careful about helper apps that do not run like standard Microsoft windows. Some Logitech software comes to mind in this category.

There is a strong slant towards XP here. I'm sure that won't change. However WB is currently still supporting ME, and WB that have XP support can be run quite nicely on ME. You just don't see the added functionality.

Anymore questions, just post them here...

I hate it too. Anything this good and this addictive must be bad for you, so yes, I hate it.

YMMV, but WindowBlinds and WebBlinds are running fine on my 4 yr old PII with 256 ram and win98. (I also run them at work on a Compaq PII with 96 mg ram and W98.)

Some people may have problems depending upon their video cards and drivers. Also, since 98 and ME don't handle resources well, for good performance at any time one should minimize the apps running on startup and in the backgound. Too many apps set themselves to run on startup when it's totally unnecessary and it just drags down the system, as Bill Sawyer said. Your problems running the program could be a result of a resource issue, the video card drivers, some program conflict or some combination thereof.

I hate it so much it has been the fourth proggy I have always ever loaded...if you count the OS, LiteSTEP, and Powerdesk all as 'proggies'....starting back with Win95 and all others since...

It is running here all the time without problems.

I just figured out it's over 3 years and very few bugs on my assorted boxes.
A few on beta versions but that's to be expected.
Even my dirt cheap 'dogbox' (ancient 'let 'er blowup' test PC!) with a 750M disc and 64M RAM ran WB fine.....
Check out the program exclusions under the configuration manager, be sure to check the 'hidden exclusions' option as well.
There are a number of programs that throw a hissy fit (but not that many!) if they're skinned.

Well thanks all for the input much appreciated i will now to take the time to see if i can fix my problems as so many of the responses are compelty for the program.

Well, start with documenting the error alerts, behavior, etc when you have problems. What other programs may be running, your hardware (videocard and drivers installed), etc.

Now perhaps there's just something about your particular PC and hardware and software config that just will not like WB. (And it's not just a W98 thing, btw.) Sometimes software (any software, i mean)just won't run nicely on one machine and it will on another, even if the software and hardware between the two rigs is comparable.

So no guarantees, but perhaps you can troubleshoot and at least try to isolate what's going on when you have problems and WB is onboard.
