Server Overload Really $ux

That really $ux. I see it on a growing amout of sites and i really can't see why people are becomming so greedy ...

What is the purpose with a site like wincustomize, when i can't even download a 200Kb file?. Atleast not until i have retried about 10 (sometimes more) times. I Really don't care about the speed, so if i can dl a small 20Kb file with 3 k/sec so be it! (Note: I normally download files at 200+ k/sec)

I for one do *not* care about fancy layout and some sh!t like that. All i really wan't is to look at other peoples work and download the stuff i wan't to use (and occasianaly comment it etc). I use more bandwidth just to log on and view the start page than i do dl a small collection of files.. Where is the logic in THAT, if any i might add.

Greed? Well, wake up guys/gals. What about giving something without suddenly labeling stuff with $$$$..

Don't get me wrong here, i know someone actually have used alot of time and effort in making a great site. And for the time i was using the site i'm really greatfull ..

Or maybe i'm completly wrong?.. If so, write how YOU think it is or should be!...

Rudz....

NYxZ...
Your post won't be deleted.
For that to happen it would need to be abusive and/or obscene...

2 main points...
Since this is specifically a site for Windows customizing/skinning it is entirely appropriate that it, too, is skinned.
Essentially all of the skin sites on the net have the same capacity to be skinned and, if not, will at least be graphic-intensive.
It is the nature of the beast.
We are a Skin site, not a P2P file DL facility.

Secondly, this site is somewhat 'popular' and at any given time of the day or night, wherever you are, has a quite significant number of people accessing it....normally an order of magnitude larger than other skin sites.

Besides, I wouldn't be complaining too much....200k/sec....good grief...I'm on a 56k modem and NEED to access the site....you do the math....

Curious.

Who exactly is the one being greedy here?

Maybe you could explain, what exactly is your point?

NYxZ, I am not sure if you know, but there is an option which you can choose to optimize the site for speed or visual enhancements (I think those are the wrong words but you get the idea). You should try changing this option see if it helps you out at all. I have never tried it so I'm not sure what it cuts back but it's worth a try.

Hmm, just counting the number of times; "I", "me", and "my" was used in that original post...

"I" has been used 15 times by itself, 51 times in total (would be 52 if NYxZ used an i instead of an ! in the word shit)

"Me" has been used 1 time by itself, 8 times in total (and the letters "M" and "E" are scattered throughout it too many times for me to be bothered counting.

"My" has been used 1 time by itself, 1 times in total (and the letters "M" and "Y" are scattered throughout it too many times for me to be bothered counting.

hmmm, deja vu? did anyone else notice that?

hmmm, i just had some deja vu then too.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

/me is confused

What he's actually referring to is that bandwidth/server resources are now split in two. X amount is available for non-subscribers/non-customers/citizens and Y amount is available for everyone else.

When X gets low, it starts bringing up a message letting them know that and that they can cure this by registering software or getting a WC subscription.

Hence, those of you with apprentice access or higher or are subscribers or customers of SD get high speed download speeds and the servers are always available. That's because more is reserved.

Now if NYxZ wanted to donate a server and pay for another 5 megabits of bandwidth (say $1000 per month on the cheap side) then we could let everyone on. I'm sure he'd be willing to do that since he's not greedy...

Or put another way, if you have 1000 people on the site and the server can only handle 800 of them at once, then the site can either be unusable for everyone or you can pick 200 people who will have to wait until later to download stuff. So the server prioritizes who the 800 that get to stuff should be.
