What the heck is a text ad?

Studio audience was polled and the response was that most don't know what text ads are. Are they ads with text w/o graphics?

Go to google and search 'computers'. Now, see those links on the right? Those are text-ads. It's like a banner, minus the annoyment factor.

..so that's what they are planning to do next...

/me reads between the (text) lines

You mean it's an ad that uses text!!

I never would have guessed from the name.

Unbelievable... Unbelievable stupid i think...

So ad's without text is just ad's and not graphical-ad's or banners or whatever you wanna call it? And with text-ad's it's text-ad's. How original.. A true magnificant brain must have thought of that.. hahaha..

What moron (excuse my language plz) could think of such a thing?. He could be nominated 'Idiot of the year' right next to ME

Well, text-ads are immune to Junkbusters, if I'm not mistaken.

OK, is the assumption of the poll that a significant number of users (here?) have something they wish to advertise or promote?

Is this just an idle theoretcal question to see what people theoretically might do? Or is this a tentative feeler trying to gauge the mood on a potential additional revenue source for WC?

If this indeed is a tentative feeler in regards to WC, will site subscribers still be able to cruise through an ad free zone (text or otherwise)?

"trying to save Bandwidth so you can move around this site with ease"

with ease?.. You missed the point, and for that i forgive you. However, i can tell you that i AIN'T trying to SAVE bandwidth, i just stated that it a shame that when someone uses several hundreds of kb of bandwidth just to load the page that one (read = all non-billed) users can't even download a 3kb cursorXp skin becuase of server overload. And i don't give a damn about a shitload of ads as long as i can dl a little file once in a while.

Read it.. And most important, *understand* it before you comment on it, that way you can do you'r self a favor and save me (and maybe others) the time it takes to read you'r crap.

You see, now it begins to esculate. My advice? Leave it.

Take care all.

Glad I'm not the only one that didn't really understand the poll question. I voted No just on principle.

With new ppl joining the internet everyday there was an inevitability that expensive equipment would be needed to provide adequate service. Someone has to pay for that stuff. If an ad is the factor to decide if a site stays or goes then ...

What's special about text ads is that they level the playing field.

Anyone can go to google right now, for example, and take out an ad there. You just enter in how much you want to spend per day (like "no more than $2"), type in the text and the keywords and voila.

Imagine if your favorite websites offered this kind of stuff? In expensive easy to do ways to support the site and promote something.

I want a Viper

The new concept one. Or a benzo. I like German engineering.

CLK500 or CL600 No window piller!!! So cool!

And what about the Nissan Altima (the new one) Didn't like it at first but my budget will not allow anything more. Now if I get rich off of the text ads, promoting health, skinning, world news and goodness in general, I can get my CLK!!

Allong with the following:
Yukon Denali
Lexus Sportcross

It would be offical that I made it if I can get the Aston Martin V12... but I would sell it to a charity after a year. Whats the point of having it? Just want to ride in it for a while. But I'll keep my Sportscross thank you.

And all because of text ads!!

Jafo: pfft, You see fast cars all the time. Driving one is for wimps, isn't it more manly to dodge them as they slide around the curves? You even get a better view! You can't see them if you are in the car...

If WinCustomise can't afford the bandwith, I wouldn't have any problem with plain text ads on it, as long as there is no distracting images, and as long as the ads are RELEVANT to the webpage they're on, unlike 80% of ads out there at the moment. That's the main problem with ads on the net. If the ads all over the pages I visit actually had something to do with the page, I wouldn't be as pissed off whenever I see them.

Of course, I'd rather have no ads at all, but that dosen't seem realistic, judging by what some people are like.

I just want a car.

Text ads can help me do it!!!..well maybe...

Sooooo I think, Ryan8024 should check out my wonderful news story on websites and advertising.

No ads on the web? The only way I can see that happening is by having really boring pages (no images what so ever elemenates allot of the bandwidth problems) and no more asp, php, cfm. jhtml.. and so on because those programs and scripts use specail servers. Even Microsoft FrontPage needs a server.

It really was a dream with the internet being totally free. When it started it was jsut a bunch of scientists. Text only pages... now look at it!! Keep in mind also that when the internet started it was handle wrong and totally misunderstood.

I want a Nissan Altima... I am sure now.
