Well,

I guess I'm a tad bit impatient. I decided to uninstall just to keep things tidy. Well, This time when I uninstalled windowblinds, the uninstall program deleted all of my wb skins!! I can't remember that ever happenning before. I should have waited for a response.

I never uninstall, I simply unload, upgrade, reload.
Look on the bright side, you get to start over collecting skins.

You need to have Windowblinds installed in your computer. If you don't have it you can get it here. https://www.stardock.com Be advised it is shareware.

I usually go to the component manager and uninstall from there. then I reinstall the new program. It works for me and doesn't delete my WindowBlind skins..... But now I am scared... I think I will wait until the next verion for windowblinds to come out.

joetheblow,

don't be scared. i am not using ODNT - I have the standalone version of windowblinds. the ODNT version may uninstall without deleting the skins (i had ODNT last year and recall this never being a problem).

I always keep backup copies of the proggies and skins....better to be safe than sorry...

Must admit that I've some pretty ancient eFX skins and LiteSTEP themes around...

JTB I usually go to the CM and I thought I was being careful about uninstalling and reinstalling but I got bit and most of my skins were deleted too. Soooo.....be careful and Zip up your most cherished skins and put them away in a safe place before doing any tidy-up jobs.

From what I understand, when you uninstall WindowBlinds, it deletes the skins with which it comes. It also overwrites skins that happen to have the same name as the skins it installs. In other words, if you highly customized a skin that comes with WindowBlinds, change its name before you install an upgrade. And as Jafo said, back them up!

I really don't understand why you would uninstall, just to upgrade.

Koasati,

Same reason some folks choose to do a clean install of their OS instead of an upgrade. It tends to keep things tidy (i.e. registry entries, left-over portions of an older version, etc.). I will enjoy looking for the best skins to download now that I can start from scratch!
