Wondering Outloud...

Does anyone really use the extra buttons in windowblinds, such as the roll up, on top, winamp and such?

I have Windowblinds perform a rollup when I right click the titlebar. Rollup is an extremely useful ability to quickly get access to under the current window without having to go the trouble of minimizing and restoring the window as you would normally do.

On-top is also useful, but I don't use it nearly as much as roll-up.

Right click for rollup, and double left click for maximize and restore is all I really use.

I don't use them often, but I always put a rollup button in my skins, because I know some people do use them.

The 'on top' and 'roll up' capabilities of WB are what really makes it useful....more than just a 'pretty picture'...

...what's 'on top' do...?

Don't use either.

How can going to the upper title bar to use "on'top" or "roll up" differ from (again) going to the task bar to "restore" or to the title bar to "minimize". Either scenerio has you going to the window "edge" to perform your operation. IMHO, why clutter your desktop with "rolled-up" windows when you can "remove" them completely from your desktop, and place them in your task-bar. "Six-of-one, half-a-dozen-of-the-other..."

I like to roll windows up instead of minimizing them for the following reason. When you minimize a window and then restore it, it takes the OS a minute to redraw the contents of the window. When you roll it up and then unroll it, the window contents appear immediatley, because they were never really gone (the window was just resized to hide them).

I use "on top" occasionally, but never "roll up". I don't see any significant difference in speed between minimize and roll up, and I do prefer to get rid of the window completely, it bugs me to have remnant tool-bars hanging around. That's why I can't stand the Mac OS.

Completely off subject, but on topic, did anyone else note the Jethro Tull allusion in Sally's topic? That put a smile on face!

I used to use the always on top button for IRC before I switched to skinbrowser. Now I don't use it. But still nice to have.

I'm so addicted to roll-up and lock on top that I can't stand using a computer that doesn't have WB installed. When I worked in a corporate office the screensaver button was also a necessity. I also try to always include notepad since I use that so much. Having music and a clock in the titlebar would be my next priority.

Windowblinds has changed the way I use a computer. Something that's so habitual I don't ever think about it untill I have to work on someone else's machine or load a skin with no extra functions. If I like a skin enough I'll add the extra titlebar buttons to it so I can use it.

Being able to 'lock' a window on top os another is very handy, allowing multi-level editing capabilities....like referring to a small window's entire contents while working in a larger window which would otherwise obscure the smaller....
