windowblinds

Often when starting my computer I get the message that spooler.exe did not start right and then I can skin anything on my computer and must start it again hoping spooler.exe does not give me any problems. I have windows 98 SE. Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do about it.

Spooler is part of your OS's printer config that loads at startup as part of the OS, I would suggest you look at temporarily disabling the different "extra" programs that load when your PC starts until you find it starts without the Spooler error - at that point you'll know which one has caused the problem.

Use a program like StartupCPL to systematically disable them - one at a time after each reboot.

Here's the link to get it, it's freeware, the screenshot on the site explains how to use it. http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

One word of caution though - ONLY disable things that you can obviously see are "add-ons"; as a general rule of thumb don't disable anything that is loading from C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System...otherwise you are likely to cause yourself extra headaches.

...and don't be surprised if you find it isn't WB that's causing you the trouble...

Er, dare I say, enjoy?

..or use the one built into Windows. Goto 'Start' 'Run' and type 'msconfig', you can change all your startup options there
