A lot of the wallpapers on the skin sites are .jpg, which means if you unzip them to the Windows folder, you'll have to use Active Desktop to use them. I would suggest using a wallpaper changer program. I use QuickChanger, but the site has been down for a while. There are lots of changers available. Go to google.com and do a search, and find the one you like.

If I'm wrong about the .jpg, and Active Desktop thing, someone please correct me. I don't want to spread mis-information.

One of the easiest ways to apply a wallpaper is to use an image viewer. There are plenty of free ones around. Irfan View is one of the most popular and can apply any format to the desktop.
