which is ``THE BEST'' graphics card??

hi...my third post
which is the ``BEST graphics card?''
ie: i want to have window fx's smooth state transitions with a P III 500 instead of P IV 2.2 Ghz
i currently have NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 ULTRA. still window fx says the graphics card doesnt support per pixel alpha blending and stuff...

also...to maximise graphics performance with TRANSLUCENT windows!
thanks a lot!

there is no single best card, it depends on what you want them to do, 2D, 3D, multiple monitors...

"Best Card" usually means the one with the best performance in gaming, which is kinda sad, in a way...

the new 3 monitor Matrox looks *sweet*, btw. being able to look left and right in a game by just turning your head... priceless

(I have a Matrox g450 dual monitor and it does everything I ask of it well, I paid $149 U.S.)

His question was which is the best gfx card to use Windows FX.
I don't know the answer. Not a Marvel G450 eTV anyway, cause that's what I have a WinFX is terrible with it. (or it's terrible with WinFX, whichever).

Right now that ATI cards and Matrox cards are the best for WindowFX. nVidia's drivers currently have a bug that cause all GDI accesses to DirectX to be performed in the CPU which drastically affects WindowFX. nVidia is working on this but it's not a super high priority for them.

I use a ATI Radeon 64m DDR ViVo with the latest Catalyst drivers. WFX is shining in all its magnificence. Everything works as it should and quickly, too.

My ATI Radeon 8500 128 meg card has been the best I've ever owned. The 2d image quality is superb. I got it for 130.00 at newegg.com

Get an ATI Radeon 9700 when they come out. They blow away all competition in terms of features and performance. They also have the benefit of using those very same Radeon drivers that work so well with WindowFX 2.

I'm using an Nvidia GeForce3 Ti 200 AGP on WinXP Pro and it works great with my P4 2.2 Ghz. Although I had to get this one because their 400 model wouldn't load the driver...strange, but now it works great! I do agree with bakerstreet though that the card should be a high performance gaming card to work well with WindowFX.

Look for lots of bells and lots of whistles. Big flashy lights and metally thingies. Huge whirring fans with lots of wires and connectors going nowhere. Make sure that the box it comes in has a big shiney 3D picture and large chrome text. Also, it is extremely important that it has some long, pointless name with lots of letters and numbers in it. And most important of all, make sure you are completely brain dead when you purchase it. Under no circumstances make an intelligent and informed decision.

Running a Geforce4 TI4400 here. Very happy with the gaming performance, but it's compatibility with WindowFX leaves a lot to be desired. If I didn't game, I would have a Radeon so that I could really see WindowFX in action. Although, Omega's custom Nvidia drivers do see to make WindowFX perform a little better. http://www.omegacorner.com/
