A little help please.

i just found winstep xtreme, and i'm trying to figure out if there is a way to skin a module.

i have a icon i want to use, that has a window in it, and i want to put the digital clock, histogram net, histogram cpu, and histogram ram meters in the windows. i've tried every thing i can find in the programs, but they wind up outside of the window.

first question can i do this?

second if so how do i do it, and do i need any other programs?

Fascinating gallery.

You'll need:

1. A graphics program... Photoshop, Gimp or the equivalent.

2. Winstep Extreme 9.5 (you can't skin it without 9.5 until/if Winstep's dev finishes the "builder module"). You'll need an up-to-date Winstep as well...

And... you'd do well to PM WebGizmos... he's done a ton of Winstep themes.

Not true....Xiandi skins it without 9.5. It requires a lot of INI work, but it can be done. She tells me it's easier than skinning WB but harder than Objeck Dock. (Because I plan to try skinning it.)

Granted, having 9.5 would make it easier, but you can do it without 9.5.

You can email me with what you want to do using my nic @msn.com and I'll check it out.

Ah crap...webgizmos runs to superglue the door lock and turns off the lights! *_*

If I had to skin Winstep without the builder the gallery would be kind of empty and I'd still be working on my first theme. 8| Doing OD without a builder was bad enough.

To show where my dunce cap came from.....imagine doing sysmetrix without the config window. I thought at first you had to edit the ini. I didn't know you could build one with the config or builder window. Go figure :)

I was recommending the easier way to do it to someone who's just beginning to skin Winstep, Jim.

That would be awesome, Doc, IF it were actually the easier way. But I for one can tell you that 9.5 isn't obtainable, so the INI editing IS the easier way.  ;)

The ONLY way, MOF, until the skinning engine version is released.

Steve fortunately had the insight to archive 9.5....

Got it. But I need more info on what your trying to do here. What you sent me was the K-Tek 4D Xtreme theme.

What I actually did was save both of the WorkShelf.exe & NextStart.exe for the 9.5 version and just renamed them...then I can switch back and forth between 9.5 and any newer version to check stuff. It's a pain in the butt...but I'll get through it somehow.... XD

It's not that hard, lol. If you can skin Objectdock, then Winstep is only one step above that as far as skinning goes. Instead of one .ini file, there are 10, each adjusts a different part of Xtreme. Easy peasy, once you remember which ini adjusts what part. ;)

just wanted give a shout out to gizmos, thanks for doing that for me. i'll let you know how it works out.

Well you have more patience than me kiddo. I pretty much do this to kill time and break up the monotony of not being able to do normal things anymore. Because of my health problem I'm not able to even sit at my desk for long periods...so the builder in this case is a huge help. But I will agree that it shouldn't be that hard for anyone else...just time consuming and maybe frustrating at times.

I'm guessing that as you edit the file and reload the theme it shows your changes right away? If it does that it might even be as easy as OD.

This just in:

Winstep Cloners for dum dums. The local app store has received a consignment of WinClo v 1.0.1/2. Available for 1995.1/2 (a 33.1/3 % discount) for today only or until supplies Peter out. Installation is a breeze. Works best on older machines because newer ones lack the wooden stool, a box of crayons, xtra construction paper and step by step how to's and most important, don't know why the devs changed this, plenty of duct tape. Its an install and forget type app in that once installed you can knock back a brew or three and by the time you're done, providing you can still stand up, you'll have your very own Winstep Clone. So no more back and forth ini-ing! Pretty cool huh.
